MRN to Air Crown Royal International Race of Champions

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Feb. 12, 2004 – Motor Racing Network (MRN), the nation’s largest independent sports radio network, today announced a one-year agreement to air the Crown Royal International Race of Champions series.

The 2004 series kicks off on Friday, Feb. 13 with coverage from Daytona International Speedway beginning at 4:45 p.m. (EST). Coverage of the invitational racing series that matches 12 drivers from different disciplines of auto racing in equally prepared cars on Goodyear Eagle radial racing tires will continue on April 2 (Texas Motor Speedway); Sept. 9 (Richmond International Raceway) and Oct. 30 (Atlanta Motor Speedway).

“In addition to our exciting coverage of NASCAR events, we are very excited to add the Crown Royal International Race of Champions Series to our programming,” said MRN President David Hyatt.

The Crown Royal IROC Series consists of four 100-mile races with points awarded for finishing positions. At the end of the fourth race, points are tallied and a champion of champions is named. The purse for the 2004 IROC season will be $1.9 million including $1 million to the champion. Drivers in the series include NASCAR Nextel Cup Drivers Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman, IRL drivers Helio Castroneves, Scott Dixon and Scott Sharpe, World of Outlaws drivers Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski and USAC driver J.J. Yeley and NASCAR Craftsman Truck driver Travis Kvapil.
