Lysol 200
Little E Wins Third Straight
Dale Earnhardt Jr. used a last lap pass around Ron Fellows to claim his
first career road course win, taking the checkered flag for the Lysol 200 at Watkins Glen by 1.110 seconds over Fellows. Fellows, who dominated much of the race, had trouble in the closing laps and allowed Earnhardt Jr. to take the lead in turn one of the final lap. After a somewhat dismal start to the 1999 season, Earnhardt Jr. has used a run with the "big boys" to turn his season around. Since his Winston Cup debut at Charlotte, Earnhardt Jr. has now won three straight BGN races.
Fellows Grabs Pole at The Glen
Using the unique "European style" qualifying, in which groups of seven to eight cars are on the track simultaniously for five minuets, Ron Fellows grabbed the pole position for the Lysol 200 at Watkins Glen. Fellows, who will also start from the pole for the Craftsman Truck race, turned a qualifying lap of 75.346 seconds, at 117.059 mph. Randy Lajoie will start from the outside pole, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jack Baldwin will start third and fourth.
