Autolite Platinum 250

 

Earnhardt Jr. Wins at Richmond
Dale Earnhardt Jr. claimed his sixth win of the 1999 season, taking the checkered flag for the Autolite Platinum 250 at Richmond. Earnhardt took the lead from Mark Martin with only eight laps to go and held of Martin by .548 seconds at the finish line. The final eight laps were the only laps that Earnhardt would lead on the night. With Matt Kenseth's troubles and a 20th place finish, Earnhardt now leads Kenseth by 103 points in the chase for the Busch Grand National championship.

    Burton Grabs BGN Pole at Richmond
    Jeff Burton, not known for his qualifying, will start from the pole position for the first time this season. Burton will lead the field to the green flag for the Autolite Platinum 250 at Richmond International Raceway. With a lap of 22.134 seconds, at 121.984 mph, Burton was able to edge Jeff Green for the top starting spot. Winston Cup regulars, Ward Burton and Mark Martin make out the second row, three of the top four qualifiers are from the Cup series.
