Gordon Returns to Victory Lane in Busch Series, Jr. Wins Back-to-Back Championships
Jeff Gordon made a triumphant return to Victory Lane in the Busch Grand National series, claiming his first BGN win since October 1992 in Charlotte. Gordon beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the finish line by 1.035 seconds to take the checkered flag for the Outback Steakhouse 200 in Phoenix. Gordon led 37 laps to win the 11th race this season by a Winston Cup regular. With a second place finish, combined with Matt Kenseth's eighth place effort, Earnhardt claimed his second BGN title in as many years. Earnhardt enters the season's final race with an insurmountable 189 point lead.

    Schrader Takes Phoenix Pole
    Ken Schrader grabbed his third Busch Grand National pole position of the season on Thursday and will lead the field to the green flag for the Outback Steakhouse 200 at Phoenix International Raceway. Schrader turned a qualifying lap of 27.782 seconds, at 129.580 mph. Schrader will be joined on the front row by Ron Hornaday, who will be making the switch to BGN full-time in 2000, while Jeff Gordon and Jimmy Spencer start from row two. Dale Earnhardt Jr., starting fifth, has the highest starting spot for a Busch regular.
