Earnhardt Jr Wins at Michigan
Dale Earnhardt Jr. won his fifth race of the 1999 season, claiming his first ever victory at
Michigan Speedway. Earnhardt was able to beat second place Jeff Gordon to the finish line by
3.424 seconds. Matt Kenseth had mechanical
problems and now trails Earnhardt by 89 points in the chase for the BGN championship.
Blaney on NAPA 200 Pole at Michigan
Dave Blaney rocketed to his fourth pole position of the 1999 season, in the process, established
a new track record at the Michigan Speedway. Blaney's qualifying lap of 39.988 seconds, at
180.054 mph, was the first ever BGN lap over 180 mph at Michigan. Blaney shattered
Hermie Sadler's track record of 41.023 seconds, at 175.511mph, set in 1997. Sterling Marlin will
join Blaney on the front row, while point leader Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Ted Christopher make out
row two.
