CarQuest Auto Parts 250
Earnhardt Jr Wins at Gateway, Recaptures Point Lead
Dale Earnhardt Jr. claimed his fourth win of the 1999 season, taking the
checkered flag for the CarQuest Auto Parts 250 at Gateway International
Raceway. Earnhardt held off Randy LaJoie by .679 seconds at the stripe to take the win and the
Busch Grand National points lead. Matt Kenseth finished sixth in the race but fell to second in
the point standings and now trails Earnhardt by 11 points.

Atwood on Gateway Pole
18 year old Casey Atwood scored his second pole position of the 1999 season, taking the top
starting spot for the CarQuest Auto Parts 250 in record fashion. Atwood's lap of 33.982
seconds, at 132.423 mph, broke the track record set last season by Shane Hall. Jeff Green will
start beside Atwood on the outside pole, while Adam Petty and Jason Keller will make out row
two.
