Lysol Brand and Elton Sawyer Renew Contracts with Akins Motorsports

WAYNE, N.J. (Aug. 16) – The Lysol brand will continue its longtime association with the NASCAR Busch Series as a primary team sponsor and will continue to sponsor the No. 98 Ford fielded by Akins Motorsports, announced Steve Rosenberg, Regional Category Director, Lysol brand products, Reckitt & Colman Inc.

The contract extends the agreement between Reckitt & Colman Inc. and Akins Motorsports through the 2000 season, which will be the Lysol brand’s seventh as a primary NASCAR Busch Series team sponsor and second with Akins Motorsports.

NASCAR veteran Elton Sawyer, a native of Chesapeake, Va., will pilot the No. 98 Lysol Ford Taurus again in 2000. Sawyer has been with Akins Motorsports since 1994 and will be starting his 18th consecutive year competing in the Busch Series.

“Akins Motorsports and Elton Sawyer are proven winners,” Rosenberg said. “I have no doubt that the team will elevate its performance to an even higher level in 2000. The Lysol brand is a leader in its category and this team is currently one of the leaders in the Busch Series. We are anticipating a successful close to the 1999 season and an even more exciting run for the championship in 2000.”

Sawyer, who is currently fifth in points, added: “I am proud to be working with the Lysol brand again as I enter my seventh season with Akins Motorsports. This year we gave Reckitt & Colman its first win and next year we hope to give the company its first championship.”

Sawyer has two career wins, both under the leadership of Brad Akins, owner of Akins Motorsports.

“I am very excited for Akins Motorsports to be aligned with the Lysol brand once again,” Akins said. “We appreciate the support we have received from them throughout the year. I am looking forward to continued success with Lysol and one of the best drivers on the circuit, Elton Sawyer.”
