DARIO FRANCHITTI IN THE No. 40 FASTENAL DODGE WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TODAY’S RACE AT TEXAS.
Notes:
Franchitti scored an 11th-place finish and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the fourth time this season.
UNOFFICIALLY Franchitti has a 17-point lead over Bryan Clauson in the Raybestos Rookie standings.
Franchitti led today’s race once for one lap, the lap he has led in 10-career Nationwide Series starts. He took WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors for the first time in 2008.
A Raybestos Rookie has now led at least one lap in each of the last two consecutive spring races at Texas. David Ragan led once for two laps in 2007.
FRANCHITTI: “That was a good run today to somewhat make up for the disappointment of yesterday, not qualifying [for the Sprint Cup race]. It’s good to go out there and run well in the Fastenal Dodge. It was one of those days the track changed a lot, the car changed a lot. We were keeping pace with it and we were just learning a lot today again, really learned a lot. I learned the most, actually, following Tony Stewart. When Tony put me a lap down I was able to stick with him and I really learned a lot from him. And then he went high and we got back through and we got back on the lead lap so I learned a lot from him today. Really a great job by everybody on the Fastenal team. That was good.” YOU RAN WELL AND EARNED THE FREE PASS BACK ON THE LEAD LAP. “We’ve missed the lucky dog a few times so it was nice to finally get one today.” AFTER RUNNING WELL TODAY, IT IS A SHAME THAT YOU ARE NOT IN THE CUP RACE TOMORROW. “That’s one of the things that qualifying is one lap but I really think we’re racing well so it would have been nice to go out there tomorrow in the Kennametal car and have some fun but it’s not to be.” WHAT WENT WRONG DURING QUALIFYING? “The car was just incredibly tight. We expected the track to free up in qualifying and it tightened up and we couldn’t carry the momentum because of the tightness.” DOES THIS HELP YOUR CONFIDENCE? YOU RAN WELL AND LOGGED LAPS. “You know, after a deal like yesterday, it’s nice to have a good finish and to show that we can do it.”
BRAD PARROTT, CREW CHIEF, No. 40 FASTENAL DODGE: “Excellent run for the Fastenal Dodge today. We come in here today with high hopes because Dario is not getting to run the Cup race tomorrow. The whole team knew that we had to come in here and get us a top-10 for Dario today and we missed it by one. We had it but shoulda, woulda, coulda because of that last caution or whatever. The whole day went great. We got the lucky dog. When Kyle Busch is outrunning everybody by three-tenths it’s hard to beat that guy. But Dario did a great job. From the time he got here this weekend he was on the money. We knew we had a good car. This is the same car that we’ve run four times this year and we’re going to keep running it until he don’t want to run it anymore. The next race for it will be Darlington.” YOU MADE A STOP FOR TIRES DURING THAT LAST CAUTION. DID THAT WORK TO YOUR ADVANTAGE? “I knew the guys behind us were going to come. There wasn’t but three guys behind us so I had to take the chance of coming and getting tires. We did lose one spot on the deal but those guys were better than us all day. We probably had a 15th-place car but if you can run all 200 laps and finish just a couple of seconds behind the winner of the race you had a good day. Dario is getting better every week and it’s just unfortunate he didn’t make the Cup race.”
