Raybestos Rookie Chase Miller will be making his eighth career NASCAR Nationwide Series start on Friday night at Phoenix. His best finish came earlier this season when he logged a 14th-place effort at Nashville.
CHASE MILLER, No. 9 RAGU DODGE: “I’m just glad to be here with the Ragu Charger. Everything has been going real well. We’ve been doing some testing and having a lot of fun and decided to come back out here to Phoenix get us a race in and have us a good race. I’m really looking forward to contending for Raybestos Rookie of the Year and really having a good time with it. I’m happy to be here with Gillett Evernham and hopefully we’ll be really quick today and have us a really good race tomorrow night.” HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE DO YOU HAVE HERE AT PHOENIX? “I’ve run a truck race here. Unfortunately we got caught up in an accident early and kind of ended our night. Hopefully we get a lot better run in that I did last time in the trucks. Again, I’m just looking forward to having a good car and having a good solid race and being pretty quick.” YOU HAVE GOOD EQUIPMENT WITH GILLETT EVERNHAM. “It’s a really good opportunity for me to be here at Gillett Evernham. It’s the best opportunity I’ve ever had and when you’re competing against these Cup guys that are coming in with all this Cup equipment you really have to be in as good equipment as we have to really compete. It makes it easier for myself and the other guys in the team to have this good equipment. It’s hard to beat their experience but at the same time I can learn a whole lot from those guys while I’m racing with ‘em.” WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TESTING AND RACING? “At the test we go and get the car shook down and make sure nothing falls off. We really have time to sit down and make changes and discuss what happens when they do changes and really just take our time to do things and learn why we’re doing it. When you’re here at the racetrack you’ll have to pull something from the memory bank and from the notes. We know this does this so we’ll change it where when you’re testing you can learn and take your time. It’s more of a learning curve.” HAVE YOU HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK WITH YOUR OTHER GILLETT EVERNHAM TEAMMATES? “I have a little bit.
I’ve definitely got to work with some of those guys like Kasey and Patrick. It really helps out getting their experience, getting their two cents. It really helps me out to hear form ‘em. The worst thing that can happen is they tell me to do something and I slow down. Any advice that I can get from anybody I try and if it works you go faster. If it doesn’t you just don’t do it again, you know.” IS YOUR DRIVING STYLE LIKE THAT OF YOUR TEAMMATES? “I’ve looked at track maps and different test data they have. When you go testing you have all sorts of telemetry on there and I have real similar data to the other drivers. That’s a good thing to have because when someone is telling ‘em how a change worked for them I know it’ll most likely work for me because the driving style is real similar.” WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD RACE FOR YOU ON FRIDAY NIGHT? “Man, I always want to win, of course, but realistically if we can get a top-10 I’ll be happy as can be. It’s really kind of what we’re looking for: get up there and contend for a top-10 and just have a really good race and stay out of trouble. You’ve got to have track position and you’ve got to be patient. You can’t lay back a little bit. You’ve got to be aggressively patient [laughs].”
Raybestos Rookie Landon Cassill will be making his eighth career start at Phoenix on Friday night. His best finish is 18th in the 2007 fall race at Dover. Cassill started 17th and placed 34th in the Nationwide Series race last November here at Phoenix.
LANDON CASSILL, No. 5 NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET: YOU MUST BE EXCITED TO GET BACK IN A CAR THIS WEEKEND. “I’m definitely excited. I’ve been waiting long enough to get in the National Guard Chevrolet and I think it’s time to go. I’m definitely ready.” HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO WAIT SO LONG BETWEEN RACES? “It’s difficult but I understand that that’s how my scheduled needs to work right now. I think the most important thing for me is to take advantage of the opportunity to watch the races as well and study up and go to the race and do the best that I can. It’s kind of Showtime now. It’s time to go.” HAVE YOU RACED HERE BEFORE? “Yeah, I raced here in November. I got some laps here and hopefully I can do better here now than I did then.” WHAT DID YOU LEARN THEN THAT WILL HELP YOU THIS WEEKEND? “I’ve just improved a lot about how I’m getting into the corner and how I’m driving these cars compared to what I used to drive.” ARE YOU STILL BUSY TESTING WITH HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS? “Definitely busy. Now is the part of
the season where I’m going to start getting a lot more seat time and it’s really going to help me out a lot.” COMMENT ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH CREW CHIEF LANCE MCGREW. “Lance and I worked together on R&D with the COT car. We’ve really built a really good relationship and he’s really smart and it’s awesome to be working with him because I really like him and I think we can do well together.” DO YOU LEAN ON DALE EARNHARDT JR. FOR INFORMATION OR ADVICE? “Absolutely. I mean, he’s my car owner so I get to lean on Dale a lot. He’s a good friend and has a lot of advice to give, too.” DO YOU HAVE THE SAME DRIVING STYLE AT EARNHARDT JR.? “I don’t know. I haven’t really figured that out yet but I think everybody is a little bit different.” WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD WEEKEND FOR YOU? “I’d like to finish in the top-15. I want to learn a little bit about how these guys run in traffic and stuff but I’d like to have a top-15 finish.”
