UNOFFICIALLY Franchitti leads the Raybestos Rookie standings by 28 points (80-52) over Bryan Clauson.
DARIO FRANCHITTI: “The Fastenal car was not bad tonight. It wasn’t as good as some of the cars. We struggled a little bit through the center of the corner but we were easily a top-10 car. But we had a lug nut issue on the first stop and that lost us track position and after that it was just hard work [smiles] just trying to take it one person at a time. It was just so difficult to gain an advantage but we fought our way back and ended up 11th again. Not a bad night.” YOU WERE FAST HERE ALL WEEKEND. “The Nationwide crew have really done a good job for me all year. I think what’s happened there is they’ve got a lot of experience with these cars and they come here with stuff they know and it’s really helped my development and my program. It’s a good job by them again. Each week is a learning experience. Tomorrow is going to be a big learning experience because the Cup car, we struggled a bit in practice today. But hey, we’re in the show so we’ll do our best tomorrow.” RUNNING WELL AND RACING FOR POSITION MUST BE A CONFIDENCE BOOST FOR YOU. “It’s great to race and there’s not a better feeling right now for me especially in the Cup car and I’m passing people and we’re competitive. That is the best feeling in the world right now. Nationwide as well we’re getting more competitive every week and that’s pretty cool.” HOW CLOSE ARE YOU FROM BEING ABLE TO CONSISTENTLY FINISH INSIDE THE TOP-10? “Well judging by the last two weeks, one place [laughs]. Naw, we’ve got a bit of work to do, got a bit of work to do in the cars and I’ve got some work to do as a driver and we’ve got work to do in the pit stops. Everybody on the team needs to pick it up a little bit and I think we’ll be a consistent top-10 runner.”
BRAD PARROTT, CREW CHIEF, No. 40 FASTENAL DODGE: “That’s two 11th-places in a row. Unfortunately the first pit stop we left a lug nut off the left front. We keep having pit stop mistakes and we’re not going to finish in the top-10 with that. We’re going to work on our pit stops this week and we’re going to go to Mexico with Scott Pruett and do the job. Dario did a heck of a job all weekend. I can’t say enough about him. He’s getting better every week. He’s finishing on the lead lap and that’s what it takes to be a race car driver in this series. This Nationwide Series is a great opportunity for him and it just makes him better for Sunday. That’s the main goal is for him to run every lap on Saturday, or Friday night, so he can run every lap on Saturday. I can’t say enough about this whole Fastenal Racing Team and the job that they’re doing right now.” DO YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO BE IN THE LINE OF FIRE TO MAKE THE PIT STOPS BETTER? “Yes. We’ve been struggling with out pit stops and like I said, it’s one little lug nut falling off. We got called for it and we’ve just got to be better as a pit stop team so we don’t get ourself in trouble. We went all the way back to 26th and wrestled around there with some slower cars. Damaged the left front fender a little bit and Robby Gordon ran over us on the straightaway and damaged the right front fender a little bit. But after everything is said and done, to come back and get an 11th-place, I can’t say enough about my driver.”
CHASE MILLER, No. 9 RAGU DODGE: “We learned a lot. The car was just off all night. Our last run there was the best. We got it the best we could. Started out really loose and got it a little bit better and finally got it to where it was a little bit tight. We got the best we could out of the car which is 21st. We brought it home in one piece and we can rebuild it or build on it and make it better and come back better the next time.” DID YOU RUN BEHIND SOME CUP GUYS AND LEARN? “I was able to learn. The car just wasn’t quite there where I could keep up with ‘em enough to use the same driving technique as they were doing. I learned what they were doing as far as braking and gas and letting it roll. It was just a little hard tonight being a little tight.”
LANDON CASSILL, No. 5 NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET: “There’s a lot to learn out there. We really did a lot of work on the race car and got it better through the middle part of the race and really drove up to a top-15 run and the car kind of fell off quite a bit and that’s been the characteristic of these race cars for as long as I’ve been driving them. We’ve got a little work to do there and see if we can get ‘em to last longer and maybe we’ll be able to hang on to those runs.” WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOU SPUN OUT IN THE RACE? “I had gotten a little loose in the middle of one and two and I think Marcos was right on me and just touched me and that’s probably all it took to get me around. As soon as I turned around backwards I didn’t want to hit the wall so I clutched it and turned it right so it’d swing it back around and then I popped her into gear and hit it wide open so it’d go on ahead.”
