Kennington Looks to Rebound in Phoenix
DJ Kennington has experienced his ups and downs in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2008. After starting 16th at Daytona, Kennington has seen rain and misfortune effect the results of the MacDonald Motorsports team thus far.
“This season has been odd. When we have a solid car for qualifying it rains or snows. And when we have a good racecar, we have something odd, preventing us from showing it on the scoreboard”, claimed Kennington.
The St Thomas, Ontario, Canada native is looking to rebound this weekend at Phoenix as he heads to a track he is familiar with in the Northern Provincial Pipelines Dodge. “So far this season I have only raced at one track that I have been to before, Bristol, and a broken gear cost us there after having a good car. I look forward to heading to Phoenix. The track suits my driving style well and even though we had a hard crash last trip there, I feel confident about our chances for a solid finish.”
The MacDonald Motorsports team from Thomasville, NC is one of just a few single car teams competing against much larger Sprint Cup affiliated teams this season. “Its an up hill battle obviously for us because we just don’t have the resources or funding compared to teams like Roush-Fenway, Hendrick Motorsports, Gillett-Evernham and Penske Racing, but that doesn’t discourage our team”, claimed Kennington. “We will continue to fight to the finish and try to meet the goals that are obtainable, like finishing in the Top 30 in Owners Points and getting solid finishes for our sponsors each week.”
DJ Kennington has been the solid international flair for the Nationwide Series in 2008, but with little attention. “Currently I am carrying the Canadian flag for our country in the Nationwide Series, and I do that with great pride.” The MacDonald Motorsports owner Randy MacDonald hails from Oshawa, Ontario, Canada as well. “NASCAR and auto racing is growing in Canada, and without the support from back home, this wouldn’t be possible. I just hope that I can make everyone proud of our accomplishments so far,” stated Kennington.
