WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE SAM’S TOWN 300 NASCAR NATIONWIDE SERIES RACE AT LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, MARCH 1, 2008.
Brad Keselowski earned WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in today’s Sam’s Town 300. Keselowski led twice for 12 laps and took the honor for the first time this season. This is the first time he has led a Nationwide Series race in 2008.
Prior to today’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Keselowski had led just three laps in 36 career Nationwide Series starts.
Keselowski was credited with a 23rd-place finish after he and Carl Edwards crashed racing for the lead three laps from the scheduled finish of the race.
KESELOWSKI QUOTES: YOU WERE IN POSITION TO WIN LATE IN THE RACE. WHAT HAPPENED? “Man, Carl and I ran each other hard, which is what you’re supposed to do. That’s what this series is about. It’s about racing hard and going for wins. That’s what we did. We were going for the win, both of us. I ran him hard, he ran me hard and someone got in the back of him and ran us both hard. It is what it is but we’re showing a lot of promise. We’re about there. This is about the happiest I can be wrecking out of race.” YOU RAN UP FRONT AND LED LAPS. THAT MUST BE ENCOURAGING. “It’s always cool to win the WIX award. I’ve seen this in this team all the way since the start of the year and I know we have what it takes to win races. We’re right there, just one whisper away. Today we just didn’t catch the breaks.” YOU WERE ON OLD TIRES AT THE END OF THE RACE AND EVERYONE BEHIND YOU HAD FRESH TIRES. DESPITE THAT DISADVANTAGE, IT APPEARED YOU STILL HAD A GOOD CHANCE TO WIN THE RACE. “I knew if I could run the middle there they might be able to get to me but they weren’t going to clear me. And that was the deal with Carl. He was there but he was never going to clear me. The only way they were going to pass me was wreck me and that’s what they did.”
UNOFFICIALLY Keselowski is 18th in the Nationwide Series championship standings.
