MacDonald Motorsports focused on California
The MacDonald Motorsports team is looking to improve this week at California Speedway in the NASCAR Nationwide Series after an impressive performance at Daytona. The newly vamped #81 STP Tools Dodge driven by DJ Kennington surprised many with an electric qualifying lap, placing them firmly in the 16th starting position for the Camping World 300.
During a green flag pit stop, the team experienced some difficulty as the jack slipped and caused a major delay in returning to racing action. After falling two laps down, the crew adjusted on the car and repaired damage caused by the previous pit stop, only to go another lap down due to a quick yellow that saw several lap cars fall an additional lap as well.
Once the repairs were completed, the team ran competitive laps and finished 33rd in DJ Kennington’s restrictor plate debut. “I’m really proud of this team. To make it in the field was tough (53 entries) and though we had some issues, they battled through them and showed some promising things there at the end”, stated Kennington.
The team will now focus on the West as they load up and head to California Speedway for the Stater Brothers 300 on Saturday. When asked about his expectations for California, Kennington replied, “I’m not sure what to expect, but I do know this team is determined to improve each week. We have set goals, and we strive to meet them each and every week.”
