WELCOME, N.C. (Aug. 28, 2008) -- Stephen Leicht will join Jeff Burton as the co-driver of Richard Childress Racing’s No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet team for the 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series season.

Leicht, 21, has run a part-time Nationwide Series schedule for RCR this year after earning his first career series victory and finishing seventh in the point standings during his rookie season in 2007. The Asheville, N.C., native has earned two top-10 finishes in just four starts this season driving RCR’s No. 21 Chevrolet, including a seventh-place showing in April at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Ariz.

“I’m very excited to work with Holiday Inn and the No. 29 team,” said Leicht. “There is a lot of history at Richard Childress Racing and the Holiday Inn team has had a lot of success on the track, including winning the owners’ championship in 2007. It’s going to be great having Jeff Burton as a teammate. We are going to help each other out as much as possible and go for that owners’ championship for Richard again.”

The No. 29 Holiday Inn Racing team won the NASCAR Nationwide Series owner’s point championship in 2007 with drivers Burton and Scott Wimmer. The tandem is currently fourth in this season’s owner point standings on the strength of one win, five top-five and 15 top-10 finishes.

“We are thrilled about the prospects of our fourth year of partnership with Richard Childress Racing, and continuing to grow our connection with NASCAR fans,” said John Merkin, Senior Vice President of Brand Management for the Holiday Inn Brands in the Americas. “Jeff is a tremendous talent and a fantastic brand ambassador for the Holiday Inn Family of Brands and we’re excited to welcome an up and coming talent like Stephen as RCR looks to take this program to the next level.”

“Stephen has shown us in just a few races this season that he has the ability to be successful in the Nationwide Series,” said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “He’s also helped Clint Bowyer and our No. 2 BB&T team with practice and setups during non-companion events when Clint has been at Cup Series tracks and not been able to get in the Nationwide car. Teaming him up with Jeff Burton will only speed up his learning curve and help the team compete for the owners’ championship.”
