CLERMONT, Ind. (July 28, 2008) — O’Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) in Indianapolis proved to be a weekend of career bests for Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Rookie of the Year contender Cale Gale. Gale and the No. 33 KHI Camping World Chevrolet team started the Kroger 200 at ORP from the third position, the best starting position of his Nationwide Series career, then finished sixth – also a career best mark. Gale took home Rookie of the Race honors for the fifth time of the 2008 season.

“We qualified the best that I’ve ever qualified and finished the best that I’ve ever finished,” said Gale. “The car got a little bit tight at the end, but our Camping World Chevy was pretty good. We raced hard all night and got a sixth place, almost a top five finish. We’ll take it and go to Michigan and work on it a little bit more. Hopefully we might be able to get us a top-five or maybe a win before my last three races of the year. The confidence from this week will definitely carry over to Michigan, Bristol and Memphis.”

Starting from the inside of row two, Gale settled into the third position for the first part of the race.

With KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick and crew chief Rick Ren on the pit box, as well as Rick Carelli in the spotter’s stand, Gale received advice throughout the race on how to drive into the corners better, what lines on the track worked best and encouragement to keep driving hard.

The only pit stop by the team was made on lap 101, while the race was under caution for the third time. Gale quickly let Ren know the car “wasn’t bad, just a little tight.” Pitting from the third spot, Gale lead one lap while making his way to his pit stall where the No. 33 team changed four tires and added fuel. Gale restarted on lap 104 in the third position.

During the fifth caution of the night on lap 142, running in the fourth position, Gale radioed Ren that the car was “too tight in the center off.” In response, Harvick and Ren gave Gale pointers on how to help with the tight conditions to get through the corners better. The race restarted on lap 148 with Gale in the fourth spot.

Gale slipped two positions by the end of the race, crossing the finish line in the sixth position on lap 200.
