Bires, Clorox Team Keep Top-20 Streak Alive at Milwaukee Mile

WEST ALLIS, Wis. – An 11th-place finish Saturday night at the RV Camping World Rental 250 not only confirmed the commitment by JTG Racing to its short-track program, it extended his string of Top-20 finishes to four races.

Kelly Bires started eighth and remained in the Top-10 most of the race at the famed Milwaukee Mile. The last segment proved to be the most-difficult for the Clorox Ford as he slipped to 11th place.

“We fought with front-end grip most of the night,” Bires said. “It wasn’t too bad at the start of the race because the race started in daylight. But at night it got worse. Everyone fights with a tight condition at Milwaukee because it’s so flat.”

The Clorox team came to Milwaukee knowing it has presented more problems than most. Crew chief Scott Zipadelli put an emphasis on the flat tracks, including next week’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and his work seemed to pay some dividends.

“We came to Milwaukee looking for a Top-10 finish, so we’re not completely satisfied. We’re happy we’re headed in the right direction with our flat-track program, but we’ve still got some work to do.”

Bires, who grew up 135 miles away from The Milwaukee Mile, remained 14th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings. He’s 152 points from the Top 10 – and eight points from JTG Racing teammate Marcos Ambrose in 13th place.

“As a driver, you want your last run to be the best so we’re disappointed with the way we finished,” Bires said. “But overall, it was a good effort. It’s certainly the best we’ve been on a flat track. We certainly took it up a notch. That’s very encouraging. I know everyone on this Clorox team is excited to be going to New Hampshire next week. We need to take everything we learned at Milwaukee, fine-tune it a little bit and get after it at New Hampshire.”

Qualifying at New Hampshire starts at 10 a.m. Saturday. The race starts at 3 p.m.

- Bires is 14th in the NASCAR Nationwide Series standings with two Top-10 finishes in 17 starts for JTG Racing.
- Carl Edwards won the RV Camping World Rental 250. Joey Logano was second, followed by Clint Bowyer in third, David Ragan in fourth and David Reutimann in fifth.
- JTG Racing teammate Marcos Ambrose was 16th in the No. 59 STP/Kingsford Ford.
- The next race for Bires and the Clorox Ford is the Camping World RV Sales 200 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
