Eric McClure

Sparta, KY (June 14, 2008)—Eric McClure and the Front Row Motorsports team headed to Kentucky Speedway, home of several first time winners in the Nationwide Series, looking to build on last weekend’s performance in Nashville. After starting the 300-mile event in the 41st position, handling issues that were prevalent during practice and qualifying worsened, putting the team at a deficit it could not overcome. After struggling throughout the race, McClure was credited with a 28th–place finish.

Once the race began, the Emory & Henry College graduate immediately report an ill-handling race car. “I’m loose on entry and I have no grip otherwise. It’s like a four wheel bounce up the track about two grooves,” McClure commented. McClure brought his Hefty® brand Chevrolet to the attention of his crew during the second caution on lap 11 to receive four fresh tires, fuel, and chassis adjustments that consisted of spring rubbers and the lowering of the track bar. McClure restarted the event in the 29th position.

Throughout the remainder of the event, handling issues continued to plague the Hefty® Racing™ team. The team took advantage of three additional cautions and one green flag pit stop to make major chassis adjustments to the car, none of which seemed to improve No. 24 Chevrolet dramatically. In the end, McClure crossed the finish line in the 28th position.

“It was ridiculous. That was, without a doubt, the worst car I have ever driven. My guys worked their tails off and changed many things, and we got it some better at the end, which isn’t hard to do when you run like we did. We just tried to stay out of the way and, luckily, a couple of guys went out of their way not to dump us about halfway. I’m embarrassed for myself, my team and my sponsor. This is big-time auto racing and we’ve got to do better than this.”
