Fort Worth, TX (April 5, 2008)—For the fourth time of the 2008 season, inclement weather forced the postponement of NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying at the Texas Motor Speedway. As a result, Eric McClure and the Hefty® brand team started the O’Reilly 300 from the 32nd position.

When the green flag fell Saturday afternoon, McClure immediately reported that his No. 24 Hefty® brand Chevrolet had lost power and the engine was running “flat”, which is indicative of a lost cylinder in the engine. McClure received a break when the caution flag flew on the opening lap, but the team decided to stay out in hopes that a spark plug was foul (dirty) and would clear up. When the race resumed on lap three, the car’s problem was still imminent, forcing McClure to pit road on lap 8 to assess the problem in the engine. It was discovered that the spark plug wires were crossed on the No. 24 machine. After spending multiple laps on pit road attempting to correct the problem, McClure returned to the track in the 43rd position, several laps down to the race leader.

As the race progressed, the Virginia native’s day progressively worsened. On lap 30, McClure reported the oil pressure had dropped and the rear end was “locking up” in the turns. On lap 56, McClure brought his Hefty® brand machine to the garage but returned to the track to complete as many laps as possible as the team fights to remain in the valued top-30 in NASCAR owners’ points.

Throughout the remainder of the event, the team continued to make chassis adjustments to help the handling on the car but the rear end vibration continued to worsen. Therefore, McClure brought his Hefty® brand Chevrolet to the garage for the final time with 29 laps remaining, thus finishing the O’Reilly 300 in the 36th position.

With the finish, FRM sits 31st in NASCAR Nationwide Series owner standings, while McClure sits 27th in NASCAR driver standings. The NASCAR Nationwide Series returns to action on Friday, April 11th with the running of the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 at the Phoenix International Raceway.

Eric McClure, driver of the No. 24 Hefty® brand Chevrolet:
“I’m not sure I’ve ever had a more frustrating day than today and I’m sure the whole team feels the same way. We lost the cylinder from the get go and made that better somewhat after we lost a bunch of laps and then we had the gear or something lock up, which made the Hefty® brand Chevrolet more than a handful. We worked on it as much as we could and stayed on the bottom and out of the way as long as possible to ride it out for points, but finally had to park it. We’ll put it behind us and go on to the next one and try to build on what we learned at Nashville.”
