The Supercuts Dodge crossed the finish line 26th in the wreck-filled Sam’s Town 300 this past Saturday in Las Vegas. It was not the finish Mike Bliss and his Fitz Motorsports crew knew that they were capable of, but it was quite an accomplishment after the No. 22 was heavily damaged by an out-of-control competitor mid-race.

They windy Saturday started off on a positive note when Mike Bliss was presented the WIX Lap Leader of the race award at the driver introductions. He then climbed in the Supercuts Dodge, which would start the race in the 13th position.

Within the first twenty laps of the race, two accidents had already occurred. Bliss could tell that the No. 22 was running a little loose into the corners, so on the second caution of the day, the crew made multiple adjustments to help the handling of the car. The changes were a big success, and Bliss was able to gain solid track position in the top-10.

The Supercuts Dodge was cruising up to 8th place when the No. 66 lost control of his car and sent Bliss into the wall. The No. 22 was damaged, but Bliss was able to drive into the garage where the crew assessed and repaired the car.

“We had such a great car and were running so well,” Bliss stated. “That makes it even harder to accept when we get wrecked like that. There was nothing we could have done though, I had already committed to the outside lane when he started spinning- it was just bad luck and being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The crew was able to repair the Supercuts Dodge and send it back out for the remainder of the race. They continued to post competitive speeds, and were able to complete a total of 141 laps, giving the team a 26th place finish.

On the radio at the end of the race, Bliss praised his crew for their hard work: “I just wanted to let you guys know how proud I am of all of you. You guys work so hard and I am so honored to be driving for you guys. We had a great car today. Thank you so much.”

Look for Mike Bliss in the Supercuts Dodge next week in Atlanta for the Nicorette 300.
