Bires and Clorox Team Fired Up After Strong Vegas Test

Kelly Bires
Kelly Bires
Las Vegas has a reputation for luck-based good fortune, but Kelly Bires and the No. 47 Clorox Ford proved that cause and effect are just as meaningful, as they wrapped up a two-day test at the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In four separate sessions spanning two days, Bires and his JTG Racing team improved each time out, with the stopwatch acting as the jury.

It was a welcome change to have the opportunity to test the No. 47 Clorox Ford, as Bires didn’t get any testing sessions in the partial 2007 schedule, driving for JTG Racing. However, the relationship with second year crew chief Scott Zipadelli continues to pay dividends and the entire team finds itself riding a crest of momentum as the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series beckons.

As the test wrapped up on the second day, Kelly Bires clocked his fastest time at 29.82 seconds and 181.056 miles per hour.

JTG Racing made a considerable investment in both technology and personnel in the latter half of the 2007 season with the goal in mind of keeping both their Nationwide and Craftsman Truck teams at the top of the speed charts in all of 2008. Bires teammate, Marcos Ambrose, was also at the front of the pack during the entire Vegas test.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY:
Kelly Bires, Driver of the No. 47 Clorox Ford:
“I think we learned an unbelievable amount of information for it just being a two-day test. I’ve been going crazy all winter just waiting for a chance to get back behind the wheel of these improved cars. It just goes to show you that all of the hard work from the top down at JTG Racing is going to work. I think we just proved it to ourselves.”

Scott Zipadelli, Crew Chief of the No. 47 Clorox Ford:
“My only complaint is that we don’t have just one more day out here. Things really clicked once we unloaded off the truck. We got faster each session and it seemed like the changes we made on the cars were always in the right direction. Kelly was just amazing. I know he’s been dying to get started this year and if this is an indication of how things are going to go, we have a lot to look forward to.”

Jodi Geschickter, Owner of the No. 47 Clorox Ford:
“I am very proud—and encouraged by the testing results at Las Vegas. I am really glad that Kelly [Bires] has the chance to prepare this time around, as I know it will put him in a much better position to compete. My hat is off to the entire crew for a job well done. I can’t wait to see how well they’ll all work together this year.”
