Fontana, CA (February 25, 2008)— Nearly 48 hours after the scheduled start time for the Stater Bros. 300, the green flag flew to commence the 300-mile Nationwide Series event at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

Eric McClure began the Stater Bros. 300 in the 28th position after qualifying was postponed due to inclement weather, resulting in the field being set by 2007 NASCAR owners points. Once the race began, Eric McClure immediately reported an extremely loose handling condition on his No. 24 Hefty® brand Chevrolet and the team used their first pit stop under caution to make air pressure and track bar adjustments. Once the race resumed, McClure stood in the 35th position.

Throughout the remainder of the event, McClure’s car changed from being loose to extremely tight. He continued to fight a car that wouldn’t turn in the corners and the Hefty® Crew took advantage of several cautions to make chassis adjustments to the Chevrolet, none of which made a significant difference in the handling of the car. After staying out during a mid-race caution, a subsequent green flag run forced the team to make a green flag pit stop, resulting in additional lost laps. Additionally, with four laps remaining, a piece of debris slammed into the front of the No. 24 machine, resulting in some damage underneath the car. As a result, McClure was forced to limp around to the finish and was credited with a 28th place finish.

With this finish, McClure sits 30th in Nationwide Driver Points and 32nd in Owner Standings.

The Hefty® racing team returns to action on Saturday, March 1 for the Sam’s Town 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Eric McClure quotes:
“We were off all day. We didn’t test in Las Vegas, which hurt us quite a bit and, with limited time in practice we gambled and changed everything underneath the car before the race. We missed it by a mile. At least this year we didn’t wreck. We’ll get it figured out and I’ll make some improvement as we go and hopefully we’ll make good strides.”
