NASCAR Nationwide Preseason Thunder: Day 3 Wrapup

Sponsor Woes Have Keller’s Status in Limbo

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jason Keller is testing with CJM Racing this weekend at Daytona International Speedway in preparation for the season- opening Camping World 300 presented by Chevy NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday, Feb. 17.

Keller just hopes he’ll be racing at Daytona International Speedway with CJM come February.

Sponsor uncertainties have left Keller’s plans with CJM Racing for the 2008 season in limbo.

“Coming down to test there is a little bit of an uncertainty,” Keller said. “CJM, we’ve been looking for a sponsor since the inception last April. We had plans to run the first part of the season but when you’re looking for sponsors, sometimes sponsors come with drivers. I don’t know if that’s going to work in my favor. Some things have popped up of late that could slow my progress down in the Nationwide series. We’ll see how that plays out.”

Keller, who made 21 Nationwide Series starts in 2007 with Brewco Motorsports and the start-up CJM Racing, is one of the most successful drivers in the history of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He owns the record for most career starts at 422, is first in series’ earning at more than $11 million and has 10 career victories and 11 poles.

Keller says having his 2008 season in doubt is frustrating.

“I wish I knew to the answer to that,” Keller says of his 2008 plans. “It was 10 races but I really don’t know. There are some things that could take me out of those 10 but there are some things that could keep leave me in those 10. I’m really uncertain. I wanted to come down here and test because I want to do everything I can do to prepare for those 10 if there are 10.”

Fastest of the day: The second wave of NASCAR Nationwide Series teams arrived at DIS on Sunday to kick off their first day of three days of testing while the first wave of Nationwide Series teams wrapped up their third and final day of testing.

Tim McCreadie was the fastest in the morning session on Sunday with a speed of 180.032 mph. Rounding out the top five were David Green (179.651), Kevin Harvick (179.301), Mike McLaughlin (179.254) and Bryan Clauson (179.172).

In the afternoon session, Brad Coleman was fastest in drafting practice with a speed of 184.042 mph in the Baker Curb Racing Ford.

NASCAR Nationwide testing continues on Monday.

Dale Jr. visits again: On Sunday, 2004 Daytona 500 champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. made his third visit to Daytona International Speedway during the month of January.

Earnhardt Jr., who made a surprise visit during the first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series test to check up on his new Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Casey Mears and was the fastest in single-car runs during the second wave of Sprint Cup Series testing, participated in draft testing on Sunday afternoon.

David Green has been testing the No.5 JR Motorsports Chevrolet this weekend but Earnhardt Jr., who is a three-time winner of the Camping World 300 presented by Chevy, will race the car during the season-opening NASCAR Nationwide Series event.

Married life: Johnny Sauter, who drives the No. 1 Chevrolet for James Finch, got married in the off-season and says being a newlywed is suiting him just fine.

“So far, so good,” Sauter said. “I’ve never had so much food in my fridge at home.”

Tickets: Race tickets for all DIRECTV Speedweeks 2008 events at Daytona International Speedway are available online at www.racetickets.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
