Zippo 200 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes
Where the Raybestos Rookies finished at Watkins Glen International:
Coleman 5th
Ambrose 13th
Ragan 21st
Montoya 33rd
Krisiloff 37th
BRAD COLEMAN IN THE No. 18 CARINO’S ITALIAN GRILL CHEVROLET WAS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL.
Note:
Coleman finished 5th and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the fourth time this season.
COLEMAN: “It feels awesome. I think that if we had a couple more laps we could’ve gotten the 15, but I didn’t want to do a scenario where you drive so hard in there and you cause both of you to go off the track you don’t get top five. This team did such a great job with this Carino’s Italian Grill Chevrolet. We started 12th, and we just worked on it all day and all day. This is my second track session, since the second one got rained out. So I got used to the track during the race and we were fast.” ON HIS PAST ROAD COURSE EXPERIENCE: “I used to run some Daytona Prototype stuff, the race that was here Friday, did the 24 hour. I mean, this road racing stuff is really fun. It’s so different from the ovals. The ovals are a blast, and it’s good to have a couple of weekends where you can come and do road racing and just go at it as hard as you can.”
MARCOS AMBROSE, No. 59 KINGSFORD FORD: “It wasn’t too bad. I mean, we just didn’t quite get it right. We brought it home probably four or five spots worse than we could have. But all considering, it’s not a bad day.” DID FUEL MILEAGE PLAY A BIG PART IN YOUR RACE? “We didn’t think we’d get that fuel mileage, so we didn’t do that strategy. That cost us a few spots. I asked for a change for that last stop and made the car worse. We stopped again. A couple things happened there that didn’t go our way. But all in all, it’s not a bad points day.”
DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD: “It was average. We were just out here making laps, trying to take care of our Discount Tire Ford Fusion. Hopefully it will help me some tomorrow, making laps today. We just didn’t have the speed we needed and we didn’t have the track position all day. If we could’ve been faster, we could’ve gotten the track position. But we just kind of rode all day. I drove as hard as I could, but I wouldn’t take a risk in tearing up the transmission doing something crazy. There was a good group of road racers today. I learned a lot, but still got a lot to learn on these road courses. But to come out of here on the lead lap with not a scratch on the car is a decent run for us, but we expect a little better.”
JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, No. 42 WRIGLEY’S BIG RED DODGE: AFTER A LATE-RACE INCIDENT ENDED HIS DAY: “We had a good today. That’s it, you know. It’s racing, I guess. We can’t win them all.”
