NASCAR Busch Series Race 24 of 35 – Watkins Glen International
NAPA AUTO PARTS 200 RACE RECAP: Ron Fellows, racing in his home country of Canada, charged back from a late race incident, to finish fourth in the NAPA Auto Parts 200 on Saturday afternoon. The inaugural race at the famed Circuit Gilles Villeneuve produced one of the wildest finishes in NASCAR Busch Series history, with Kevin Harvick Inc. co-owner Kevin Harvick taking the win.
BACK TO BACK: The Mississauga, Ontario native and road-course specialist, Ron Fellows jumps back behind the wheel of KHI’s No. 33 Chevrolet for the second consecutive week, and the third time of the 2007 season (Mexico City). The former NASCAR Busch and Truck Series winner hopes to add another Busch Series win to his resume at Watkins Glen International.
RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF: Ron Fellows has visited victory lane many times at the famed Watkins Glen International. Fellows has five NASCAR victories at the 2.45-mile road course.
Three NASCAR Busch Series Wins (1998, 2000, 2001)
Two NASCAR Truck Series Wins (1997, 1999)
MR. POLE AWARD: Ron Fellows has five career poles at Watkins Glen International. Fellows has gone to victory lane three of the five times he had won the pole award.
Two NASCAR Busch Series Pole Awards (1999, 2000)
Three NASCAR Truck Series Pole Awards (1997, 1998, 1999)
LOGGING MILES: Ron Fellows will drive 421 miles this weekend at Watkins Glen International. Fellows will participate in the Zippo 200 (NBS) on Saturday and the Centurion Boats at The Glen (NNCS) on Sunday. This means that Fellows could have driven from his hometown of Mississauga, Ontario to Watkins Glen International and back, for example.
RUNNING IT: The No. 33 RoadLoans.com team will unload chassis No. 032 this weekend at Watkins Glen International. This will mark the third race with chassis No. 032 for the No. 33 team in 2007. Ron Fellows drove this chassis to a 32nd-place finish in Mexico City, after he experienced engine trouble, to go along with a solid fourth-place finish last weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
THIS RACE, ONE YEAR AGO: Ron Fellows qualified KHI’s No. 33 Chevrolet in the fourth position, but after a part failure during qualifying, he was forced to start in the back of the field. Fellows’ No. 33 machine was extremely fast, which gave him the opportunity to work his way to the front of the field. After a green, white checkered flag finish, Fellows crossed the start-finish line in the ninth position.
DID YOU KNOW:
Ron’s first professional racing debut was in the Player’s/GM Challenge. He competed from 1986 to 1989, when he won the Driver’s Championship in 1989.
Two NASCAR Truck Series wins (Watkins Glen 1997, 1999)
Three NASCAR Busch Series wins (Watkins Glen 1998, 2000, 2001)
19 career Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans-Am wins
CHEVROLET HONORS FELLOWS: Corvette enthusiasts in search of a unique ride have much to consider this year with the introduction of the Ron Fellows’ ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06. The special-edition Corvettes are distinguished by exclusive interior and exterior arrangements and will be offered in limited, predetermined quantities. In other words, when they're gone, they're gone. Marking his championship tenure with Corvette Racing's GT1-class domination in the ALMS, Corvette racing legend Ron Fellows is celebrated with a specially prepared 2007 Corvette Z06 production model. All are distinguished by Arctic White paint (including the door handles) that is accented with a racing-style fender stripe and Ron Fellows' autograph.
This special Corvette Z06 is the first signed special edition in Corvette's 54-year history, and is the first Arctic White Z06 ever offered. Only 399 are planned for production; approximately 300 for the United States, 33 for Canada and 66 for other export markets. The Ron Fellows’ ALMS GT1 Champion Corvette Z06 will be available this spring. It carries an MSRP of $77,500, including destination. OnStar and a navigation system are the only options; and when equipped with them, the price is $79,945.
DAN STILLMAN QUOTES:
WILL RON FELLOWS’ DOUBLE-DUTY HELP THE BUSCH CAR? “Anytime you can have a road-course ace behind the wheel of your car is only a plus. Ron (Fellows) is a great road racer and his Watkins Glen record shows that. Having a great run last weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and the extra seat time he will get this weekend, can only help our chances at The Glen. It’s fun to work with him, and the guys on this team really like working with him.”
