JUSTIN DIERCKS, No. 70 FORETRAVEL MOTORCOACH CHEVROLET: “There was a wreck up in the front and the spotter didn’t say anything. I was tucked up underneath the 59 car. He got out of it and I hit him. I hate taking him out. I know he’s running for points. I was just being safe, going to push him through. I was even trying to bump draft or nothing, just pushing through with the air. It’s just unfortunate. I didn’t get any warning and he checked up and I got into the back of him. It wasn’t that hard of a lick but it put a hole in the radiator. It’s a bum deal. I was really looking forward to this race. The car was great. It was sucking up great. We really could have had a good finish here but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.”
MARCOS AMBROSE, No. 59 KINGSFORD/BUSH’S FORD: “I couldn’t miss it, mate. We were right on the yellow line and knew that was the safest spot to be. Something happened above us and just put us in the fence in the backstraight. I’ve seen a lot of the cars flip and tumble and destroy themselves and luckily we stayed on four wheels, I don’t know how. Maybe got too much downforce, I don’t know [smiles]. I just tried to do the best I could out there and I learned a lot. I feel like I ran good at the front, was aggressive and all that kind of stuff so I feel like I’ve had a good day even though the result is pretty poor.” YOU WERE IN POSITION TO SCORE A TOP-10 BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. “Yeah, I think we were fifth there when we got turned around. It was coming to us but just wasn’t our day.”
DAVID RAGAN IN THE No. 6 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD WAS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT TALLADEGA.
Notes:
Ragan finished fourth, his best finish in 17 Busch Series race. He took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the third time this season. Ragan scored his first top-five and second top-10 finish of the 2007 season.
UNOFFICIALLY Ragan has a two-point lead over Juan Pablo Montoya (101-99) in the Raybestos Rookie standings.
DID YOU KNOW? For the first time in 16 Busch series races at Talladega, FOUR Raybestos Rookies finished in the top-10: Ragan (fourth), Kyle Krisiloff (fifth), Montoya (seventh) and Brad Coleman (ninth).
Kyle Krisiloff scored his best finish in 13 Busch Series starts. His previous best effort was 16th earlier this season at Mexico City (race No. 3).
Brad Coleman scored his best finish in seven Busch Series races this afternoon at Talladega. His best previous effort was 15th earlier this season at Nashville (race No. 7).

DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD: “This was another good points day for us. We’ve just got to get ourselves back in the top-10 comfortably in points and then I’ll be able to race.” HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE DOES THIS RUN GIVE YOU FOR THE CUP RACE HERE TOMORROW? “A lot. Man, both cars are good. Our Cup car is really good and I think we can do the same thing tomorrow. It’s just a matter of putting ourselves in good position. We got caught up in that wreck there on the back straightaway and we had to come down and work on our Ford Fusion a little bit. We marched our way back to the front and I tell ya, the Discount Tire car had a lot of speed and that’s what counts at these restrictor plate races.” DID YOU HAVE A PLAN ON THAT FINAL RESTART? “I was almost committed to the bottom. I wanted the 21 to try the 24 on the high side then I would have made it three-wide on the bottom and just hope for the best. I think the 14 was kind of committed to sticking with us. He had run behind us the majority of the day so I’ve got to take my hat off to Kyle for helping me out a little bit. On those last few laps Tony laid back a little bit and you knew he was going to be hard charging and he didn’t have anything to lose. He’s not out here racing for points. I would have jumped out of line and fell from third to 10th. That wouldn’t have been a smart move.” HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO BE PATIENT WITH A POSSIBLE WIN HANGING IN THE BALANCE? “Man, it’s hard. A year ago we would have thought we had just won the Daytona 500 but now we’re a little disappointed with a fourth-place finish. That just shows you how fun we’re having and how competitive this Busch Series is. Like I said, it’s crazy to be disappointed at a fourth. The win is coming and we’re going to be ready for it.”
KYLE KRISILOFF, No. 14 CLABBER GIRL FORD: “This Busch Series is so tough and it’s really cool to be here. Man, we ran good today and I’m so proud of my guys. We’ve tried hard all year and we’ve had some bad luck. Today we ran really strong and it felt good to be up there.” WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT LAST RESTART? YOU HAD ANOTHER RAYBESTOS ROOKIE WITH YOU. WERE YOU GUYS GOING TO WORK TOGETHER? “I knew Tony and Bobby would be right up there and I really wanted to pull out in front of them but I just knew if I did I knew Tony would say fourth is pretty good and he’d stay down. I just don’t know those guys enough to feel confident in going up there and doing that but a top-five is awesome. This is the first car that we’ve ever built. We built it in January for Daytona and it was pretty quick down there. We qualified 19th and it was a little tight and we worked on it. They’ve been working hard this whole year trying to work on our cars. We’ve been hiring people and we finally secured a sponsor. We’ll be announcing that in a couple of weeks. Everything has just been coming together. I’m just really happy for my guys.” THIS WAS A CRAZY RACE. “I got lucky. There were a bunch of crashes where had I been in front of them like I was five laps ago I would have been right in the middle of the wrecks. But I mean, that’s what all of this is about. I was lucky today.” HOW BIG IS THIS FINISH FOR THIS TEAM? “It’s huge, man. We have less than 20 guys and they work harder than guys at big teams. When you come home 20th and 30th every week nobody wants to do that. Not that we’re going to be in the top-five every week from now on but this is a little shot in the arm and it’ll just keep us going.” THIS MUST BE A GOOD CONFIDENCE BOOST FOR YOU. “Absolutely. Everybody wants to run good and I don’t know if this is how we’re going to be for the next month or so. It just shows we’re turning our program around and we’re making a corner and it really makes me happy.”
JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: “It’s crazy but fun, man. I think we run good. I think the Texaco/Havoline Dodge car was great today. I think we could have had a little bit more. I had a damaged right front bumper and they didn’t see it in the last pit stop. We just lost a bit of performance there. But we still had a great car. We pushed people all day long and we stayed out of trouble.” IT LOOKED LIKE THE CAR WAS GOOD ENOUGH TO GET BACK TO THE FRONT. “Yeah, the car was that good, but I had no help from behind. I think probably the front eight or 10 cars were just too fast against the rest of the field so we just drove away. At the end I gave Harvick a really good push thinking he was going to push Stewart and Edwards and he moved out of the way. That was that. It was a little bit annoying but that’s what we had.”
BRAD COLEMAN, No. 18 CARINO’S ITALIAN GRILL CHEVROLET: “It was awesome. We started on the pole, led 14 laps and I knew we’d get trained. And we did, we went to the back. We kept fighting our way up. We got to fourth at one point. This Carino’s Italian Grill Chevrolet was awesome. At the end there, without the help of the people behind me, I wouldn’t have finished where I did. I got shoved around the outside and went from 14th to ninth in two laps so I’m happy. Carl Edwards came up after the race and said ‘You did a good job, man’ and when a NEXTEL Cup driver comes up and says that to you it’s a good feeling. On the last lap I had to be Superman. I’m just happy it’s over.” HOW MUCH CONFIDENCE DO YOU GET RUNNING WELL HERE TODAY? “A lot of confidence and you realized how much fun it is. This is my first restrictor plate race in the Busch Series. In ARCA you’re running single-file most of the time and you don’t get to see what it’s like when someone gets under you, you go straight to the back. But this, there’s three lines consistently so it was awesome.” YOU WON WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER OF THE RACE HONORS TODAY. “I wish we could have led the most laps and won. It’s pretty cool to win the WIX award. I’m happy with what we got today.”
DAVID RAGAN PRESS CONFERENCE
“Our Ford Fusion was real fast all day today. We wanted to stay up front and stay out of trouble. We had some front end damage when the 5 car wrecked on the back straightaway. Our Discount Tire team did a great job in patching up the nose of our Ford. I was content just cruising in the back there for a little while and then we had a great pit stop there the last one from the end and got some pretty good track position and found ourselves back up in the top-five. I was points racing but at the same time trying to get that first win. I was very content with staying on the bottom and just hoping that I could squeeze around ‘em. But Tony made a great move there at the end and it sure does help to have teammates there with ya at the end.” COMMENT ON YOUR CHANCES FOR SUCCESS TOMORROW IN THE CUP RACE. “Yeah, certainly our Cup car has a lot of good speed and that’s very important here. A lot of times you’re just at everyone else’s mercy for making passes but I feel like I Busch car and our Cup car for both today and tomorrow have good speed. It’s just going to be a matter of playing our pit strategy right, when to take four tires and when to take two tires and just being in good position. I used to not like these places when you don’t have a good car but over the last year and a half, Roush Fenway Racing has put a great car underneath me and these tracks are fun now.”
