Aaron’s 312 - Jon Wood Notes

JON WOOD CONFIDENT LUCK WILL CHANGE IN No. 47 ARMOR ALL FORD

Jon Wood laughs when he said he’s afraid somebody will drop a piano on his head. That’s what bad racing luck will do to a driver’s confidence.

At the same time, Wood remains upbeat heading into Saturday afternoon’s Aaron’s 312 at the Talladega Superspeedway. One good finish has a way of erasing a lot of bad racing luck.

Wood returns to the track where he enjoyed his best finish in the Busch Series. He was second there two years ago and he brings a car that’s capable of running in the Top 10.

Talladega, however, brings the very real possibility of a crash. Restrictor plates lead to close-quarter racing. A little mistake often blossoms into a multi-car crash. But as far as Wood is concerned, luck is nothing more than being at the right place at the right time. His Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team will put him in the right place. And with a little luck, it will be at the right time.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY
Jon Wood, driver of the No. 47 Armor All Ford Fusion:
“The only thing that helps you keep your head up when you’re in the kind of run we’ve been in is the fact we’ve had good cars every week,” he said. “What gets you down is when you’re luck’s bad and your car’s are bad. That’s when you feel like you’ve got no place to go.

“We’ve crashed some cars in the last month, but this Armor All team keeps fighting. There’s definitely an end to this. Everyone runs into spells like this, but it doesn’t last very long. I can keep my head up because I know I’m going to have a good car and a good chance to run well. Scott (Zipadelli, crew chief) brings a lot of knowledge with restrictor plates and hopefully that will rub off.”

Scott Zipadelli, Crew Chief of the No. 47 Armor All Ford Fusion:
“This has been a real tough month, but the best part about this business is it can all turn around at the next race. That’s what we’re hoping. We had a great car at Daytona and it should be even better at Talladega. The car was built for speed. Daytona is a handling track. We’re doing all the right things, and eventually we’ll be rewarded for it. I hope it starts this week.”
