NOTES:

  • This Week’s Camping World Chevrolet at Talladega Superspeedway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 031 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable in this weekend’s Aaron’s 312. This is the same car Bowyer raced to a fourth-place finish in the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway. Additionally, he raced this car to third-and sixth-place finishes, respectively, last season at Daytona. The Emporia, Kan., native also finished fifth with the same No. 2 Chevy last April at Talladega. Bowyer also drove this car in all three restrictor-plate races on the 2005 Busch Series schedule. Pretty Sporty Stats … In five NASCAR Busch Series starts this season, Bowyer has earned one win, three top-five and four top-10 finishes. He is the most recent winner on the Busch Series tour after leading 120 laps en route to a dominating victory last weekend in Phoenix.
  • RCR at Talladega … In 14 previous Busch Series starts at Talladega Superspeedway, RCR has posted two poles (Clint Bowyer, April 2004; and Johnny Sauter, April 2002), five top-five and five top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 70 laps on Talladega’s high-banks.
  • For Whom the Wedding Bells Toll? They Toll for Dan … Bowyer’s crew chief Dan Deeringhoff will miss this weekend’s race at Talladega in lieu of his wedding. Deeringhoff will marry Sandy Bessey in a ceremony this Saturday at noon at Sandals Resort in the Bahamas. Bowyer’s NEXTEL Cup Series engineer Jeremy Bullins will call the race in Deeringhoff’s absence who will return to the top of the pit box next weekend in Richmond.
  • Dirt’s for Racing, Pavement’s for Gettin’ There … Bowyer took delivery of a brand-new Rocket dirt late model Saturday, April 14th. He’ll knock the shine off of it this Friday and Saturday night when he will race the Jack Daniel’s-sponsored entry at the Talladega Short Track (TSS), located directly across the street from Talladega Superspeedway. One of RCR team owner Richard Childress’ grandsons Austin Dillon, will also race his No. 3 No Fear-sponsored dirt late model at TSS this weekend.
  • Double Trouble in Talladega … Following his duties behind the wheel of the No. 2 Camping World Chevy, Bowyer will turn his attention to the No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet for Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. Live coverage of the ninth stop on the 2007 NEXTEL Cup tour will take the green flag Sunday, April 29 beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will be televised live on FOX and broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the ninth of 36 points-paying races on the 2007 schedule will be televised live on SPEED Saturday, April 28 at 11 a.m. EDT.
  • Up to Speed … The Aaron’s 312 from Talladega Superspeedway will be televised live on ABC Saturday, April 28th beginning at 2:30 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying will be televised on a same-day-delayed basis on SPEED Friday, April 27 beginning at 8 p.m. EDT.

    CLINT BOWYER QUOTES
Other than the fact that both are restrictor plate tracks, are there any similarities between Talladega and Daytona?
“To me, I think that’s about it. It seems like if your car handles good at Daytona, you can drive your way back up through there, whether it be three-wide on the outside or down on the bottom. At Talladega, it isn’t quite so much. If you’re three-wide, up on the outside, you better have a pretty good train of cars with you to make it work up there. However it stacks up, it’s still drafting so, for me, restrictor plate racing is a lot of fun.”

Talk about restrictor-plate racing and Talladega in general.
“Drafting out there at Daytona and Talladega is pretty crazy to be honest. It’s wild. You either like it or you don’t. I’m not going to say it isn’t scary because it scares the hell out of me sometimes. You have to be able to stick your nose in there and get after it to get the job done. There are a lot of situations where you can just as easily back off and go to the back or you can go for it and go to the front. Obviously, good equipment plays a huge role on restrictor-plate race tracks and I’ve been fortunate enough to have good cars underneath me. When you have a good car, plate racing can be a lot of fun.”
