O'Reilly Challenge - Marcos Ambrose Notes

AMBROSE BACK ON TRACK AHEAD OF TEXAS CHALLENGE

Coming off the back of his best NASCAR Busch Series result Marcos Ambrose is looking to continue that form into the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas this weekend.

Ambrose was fourth at the 0.75-mile (1.21-kilometre) Memphis Motorsports Park last weekend, a fine result for the driver of the #59 Kingsford Charcoal Ford Fusion and the crew from Wood Brothers/JTG Racing.

But it is the faster ‘intermediate’ style tracks like Texas that have proven to be the favourite discipline for the Ambrose and the #59 Kingsford team, giving the Australian a confident outlook on this weekend’s challenge.

In the November race at Texas in last year’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, Ambrose qualified in 18th position and finished in 10th place, his fourth top 10 finish that season.

The Australian will be looking for a similar result this weekend at the fast 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometre) speedway as he looks to continue to strive towards a top 10 finish in his rookie season in the NASCAR Busch Series.

“Memphis was a great event for us and it’s given us a boost heading into these last three events,” said Ambrose.

“It was good to get such a strong result and have the Kingsford car working well on a short track. But the faster ‘intermediate’ tracks are still where our best speed is and Texas is a track that I really like.

“It’s a tough place but I think that our package for these quicker 1.5-mile ovals is fairly strong, so we are all pretty excited to see what we can do at Texas.

“I’ve always said that it is important for our team to have a strong end to the season. We’ve worked very hard all season long and I think if we can finish the year with some good results it will allow us to continue to work hard with that progress in mind over the break and start next season ready to give it everything. Momentum can mean a lot in this sport.”
