O'Reilly Challenge - Jeff Burton Notes
Jeff Burton
No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet
Event/Date: O’Reilly Challenge – November 3, 2007
Venue: Texas Motor Speedway – Ft. Worth, Texas
NOTES:
This Week’s Race Car at Texas Motor Speedway … Jeff Burton will pilot Chassis No. 037 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable in this weekend’s O’Reilly Challenge. Built new in 2005, Clint Bowyer unveiled this chassis at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Most recently, Burton drove this chassis to Victory Lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway last spring after starting eighth. Since then, this Holiday Inn Chevrolet has been built new from the ground up, including a new body and has received all the required 2007 updates.
Top of the Charts … Based on Scott Wimmer’s sixth-place finish last week at Memphis Motorsports Park, the No. 29 team maintained a 136 point advantage in the NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) owners’ championship point standings. The potent duo of Burton and Wimmer have earned one pole, four victories, 15 top-five and 24 top-10 finishes.
Burton in the Lone Star State … Burton finished third in his first NASCAR Busch Series race at Texas in 1997. He has four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes and has been running at the end of each of his 10 NBS starts at Texas Motor Speedway. Consistency has been the key for Burton at Texas – he has completed 100 percent of laps contested and has yet to finish outside the top 10.
RCR Busch Cars at Texas … In 21 NBS starts at Texas Motor Speedway, RCR boasts one pole (Jeff Green - April 2002), three wins (Kevin Harvick - March 2001, April and November 2006), five top-five and 12 top-10 finishes and has led for 508 laps.
Pretty Strong for a Part-Timer … Despite competing in just 17 of the 32 events to date in 2007, Burton sits 15th in the NBS drivers’ point standings. All but two of the races have resulted in top 10s, including four wins (Las Vegas, Atlanta, California and Charlotte) and 11 top-five finishes. Burton has an average start of 9.3 and an average finish of 7.1.
Leading the Way in Owner Wins … Childress leads the 2007 NBS in owner wins with 11 – the most recent coming three weeks ago at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with Burton.
Double Down in the Big D… In addition to his driving duties with the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet, Burton, a 19-time race winner in the NASCAR Cup Series, will drive RCR’s No. 31 AT&T Chevrolet in the November 4 Dickies 500. The race will air live on ABC beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and can also be heard on the Performance Racing Network (PRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Catch the Action … Live coverage of the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway will be televised on ESPN2 Saturday, November 3 beginning at 3 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on PRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 32nd of 35 races on the 2007 Busch Series calendar will air live on SPEED Friday, November 2 beginning at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
What do you think of Texas Motor Speedway since they have removed the bump?
“The bump thing was greatly over exaggerated. If Dale Earnhardt Jr., hadn’t mentioned anything then no one would have known the bump was there. It was there and the track is much smoother now but I don’t think that it changed how racey the track is.”
You have done well at Texas Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Busch Series. How do you feel about the track?
“Texas is a very demanding race track. It is a track that requires a great deal of aggressiveness and patience all at the same time. To me the Busch car is a riot at Texas because it is so fast. It is crazy fast at Texas. It is the kind of track that we should compete well on.”
