Emerson Radio 250 - Kyle Busch Notes

PREVIEW: KYLE BUSCH (NO. 5 STA-GREEN/LOWE'S CHEVROLET)
VENUE: RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY (.75-MILE D-SHAPED OVAL)
CIRCUIT: NASCAR BUSCH SERIES (RACE 28 OF 35)
EVENT: FRIDAY, SEPT. 7, 2007 (150 LAPS, 300 MILES)

FIRST VICTORY: Kyle Busch earned his first career NASCAR Busch Series victory at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway in May 2004. Busch dominated the race, starting on the pole and leading 236 of the 250 laps.

RICHMOND RACER: In seven career Busch Series starts at RIR, Busch has posted one victory, three top-five finishes and four top-10s. He has earned one pole and led 250 laps at the short track, where he came in fifth in May.

QUICK TIME: Busch holds the Busch Series qualifying record at Richmond with a time of 20.874 seconds, set in May 2004. He has never qualified outside of the top-20 for a Richmond Busch Series event.

TEAM 5 STATS: With a runner-up finish at California Speedway last Saturday, the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Busch Series team earned its sixth top-three result of the season. The team has posted nine top-five finishes and 11 top-10s in only 14 starts. The team has earned two pole positions and has led 714 laps, the most of any Busch Series competitor.

STRESS-FREE: Busch will attempt to sweep the weekend at Richmond International Raceway with wins in both the NASCAR Busch Series and NEXTEL Cup Series. He has never finished outside the top five in his No. 5 Cup car at the track and, after his third-place finish in the Cup race at California Speedway, Busch is now locked into the 2007 Chase for the NEXTEL Cup.

CHASSIS 434: Crew chief Mike Bumgarner has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 434 for Friday's Busch Series race at Richmond. This chassis earned the pole at Phoenix International Raceway in April, but finished 37th after being involved in a mid-race accident. Chassis 434 was supposed to be the primary for the May Richmond race, but was unable to be repaired in time.

KYLE BUSCH, DRIVER OF THE NO. 5 STA-GREEN/LOWE'S CHEVROLET: (ON GIVING ADVICE TO HIS HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS TEAMMATE, LANDON CASSILL, WHO WILL BE MAKING HIS FIRST BUSCH START AT RICHMOND.) "The best advice I can give Landon is to go out there and just race your race car. Just worry about what you're doing, not what everyone else is doing. Try to make it the best you can. Some of these guys watch too much of what the Cup guys do on television. Waving people by and being a good racer, for example. In the Busch Series, that's just a place just to race. You don't get in trouble for it as bad in the Busch Series because you're learning and trying to become a better racer. You learn those habits in the Busch Series, then take them to the Cup Series where you have to learn new habits. Everything about NASCAR is a learning game."

BUSCH: (ON HIS STA-GREEN/LOWE'S TEAM AT RICHMOND.) "We have a pretty good Busch program at Richmond. We're not the best, but we can still work on it and make it better. We finished fifth there earlier this year, so if we can just have a decent run, we'll be there for the win in the end."

BUSCH: (ON HIS FIRST CAREER VICTORY AT RICHMOND IN 2004.) "Richmond had just gotten brand new pavement before that race. We led a ton of laps and tied Dale (Earnhardt) Jr.'s record for most laps led there. We went on to win, just barely beating Greg Biffle. It was a very special night for us. Ricky (Hendrick) was there, and my crew chief, Lance McGrew, did a great job throughout the entire race. We just had a good solid race that night."
