Emerson Radio 250 - A.J. Allmendinger Notes
A.J. Allmendinger
NBS Advance for RIR
Race: Emerson Radio 250 on Friday, September 7, 2007
Track: Richmond International Raceway (RIR)
Location: Richmond, Va.
The No. 42 Memorex Dodge Team
Allmendinger to Race No. 42, again: A.J. Allmendinger made his first career NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) start last weekend at California Speedway driving the No. 42 Memorex Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS). He and the No. 42 Memorex team were working their way forward after having to take the initial green Saturday night from the back of the pack due to an engine change earlier in the weekend. Allmendinger picked up 20 spots in 20 laps in the early running of the race, and then a massive collision played out on lap 68 that collected the No. 42 CGRFS Dodge. Allmendinger will race again this weekend in the No. 42 Memorex Dodge at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) and is scheduled to compete in three more Busch races for CGRFS after that, including Dover International Speedway, Kansas Speedway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Allmendinger is the full-time driver of the No. 84 Red Bull Toyota in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. Team Red Bull and CGRFS reached an agreement that would allow Allmendinger to drive the No. 42 Memorex Dodge in order to get him added track time. Allmendinger is originally from Los Gatos, Calif. He started racing in open-wheel, in which just last year he collected five CHAMP car victories. For more information about Allmendinger, go to www.ajallmendinger.com.
My Hometown: Ryan Quann, the No. 42 Memorex catch can man, calls Richmond his home. He grew up in the Virginia town and graduated from Midlowthian High School in 1996. He has been with CGRFS for seven years. In addition to his Busch duties, he goes over the wall as the extra man on NEXTEL Cup race days for the No. 42 Texaco/Havoline team. Through the week, he works in the composite shop at CGRFS in Concord, N.C.
Chassis: Crew chief Brian Pattie and the No. 42 Memorex team will run chassis #753 this weekend at RIR. The car most recently carried Kevin Hamlin and the No. 42 team to an eighth-place finish at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis, Ind., this past July. Before that, it had three other starts this year—at Lowes Motor Speedway (Reed Sorenson started 36th, finished 35th) in May; Texas Motor Speedway (Sorenson started 30th, finished 42nd) in April; and New Hampshire International Speedway (Juan Pablo Montoya started seventh, finished 34th) in June. Unfortunately, all three efforts ended prematurely after on-track accidents took the team out of contention.
Standings Update: The No. 42 team is now 23rd in the overall NBS owner ranks with a current tally of 2,671 points. The CGRFS team is 20 points outside of the top 20 and 112 away from the top 15.
