Emerson Radio 250 - Clint Bowyer Notes

Clint Bowyer
No. 2 BB&T Chevrolet
Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event/Date: Emerson Radio 250 – September 7, 2007
Venue: Richmond International Raceway – Richmond, Va.

NOTES:

  • This Week’s BB&T Chevrolet at Richmond International Raceway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 069 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new for 2007, this is the same car Bowyer raced to wins earlier this season at Phoenix (St. 2 – Fn. 1) and Richmond (St. 8 – Fn. 1). The Emporia, Kan., native also finished sixth with this car in July at New Hampshire International Speedway after qualifying third. In its only three starts, Chassis No. 069 has a 4.33 starting average and a stellar 2.67 finishing average.
  • Back in the Saddle with BB&T … After running the No. 21 Camping World Chevrolet last weekend in California, Bowyer returns to his traditional seat behind the wheel of the No. 2 BB&T Chevy this weekend at Richmond International Raceway (RIR).
  • Stats Facts ... Bowyer is the most recent Busch Series winner at RIR following his victory in May at the Circuit City 250. In five Busch Series starts at “the Action Track,” the Emporia, Kan., native has one win, one top-five and three top-10 finishes.
  • Pretty Strong for a Part-Timer … In 16 NASCAR Busch Series starts this season, Bowyer has amassed two wins, 10 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. Despite having sat out 11 of the division’s 27 races to date, the Emporia, Kan., driver has led 298 laps and is 11th in driver points after picking up one more spot following his fifth-place run in last weekend’s Camping World 300 presented by RVs.com at California Speedway.
  • RCR Busch Dominance … Much has been made of the supposed dominance of the No. 60 team driver this season. Closer inspection of the statistics, however, shows a different story. After 27 Busch Series races, Kevin Harvick has one more win (5), two more poles (2) and the same number of top-10 finishes (17) in seven fewer races. The No. 29 Holiday Inn team has one more top-five finish (14) as the No. 60 team and three more top-10 finishes (20). Clint Bowyer has two wins, nine top-five and 13 top-10 finishes, and is 11th in points having run only 16 races. Harvick, Bowyer, Burton and Scott Wimmer are all in the top 15 in the driver’s standings despite running limited schedules. RCR leads the Busch Series with 10 victories (Harvick – five; Burton – three; Bowyer – two). The three RCR Busch Series teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 34 top-five and 48 top-10 finishes and have led 1,198 laps, just less than one-fourth of the 4,848 laps contested.
  • RCR Busch Cars in Richmond … In 33 NBS starts at Richmond International Raceway, RCR has earned five wins (Bowyer – May ’07 and Harvick – Sept. and May ‘ 06, May ’05 and Sept. ‘03), two poles, 13 top-five and 18 top-10 finishes. Leading the Way in Owner Wins … Richard Childress Racing leads the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series in owner wins with 10 – the most recent coming last weekend at California Speedway with Burton.
  • Coming Home … Hylton Tatum, mechanic for the No. 2 BB&T racing team, hails from the Commonwealth of Virginia and calls Stuart home.
  • Back on Top … Following Burton’s win last weekend at California, RCR’s No. 29 team reassumed the lead in the NASCAR Busch Series owners’ championship point standings and sits 68 markers ahead of the No. 60 machine. In 27 starts, the potent duo of Burton and Wimmer have earned one pole, three victories, 14 top-five and 20 top-10 finishes.
  • Double Duty at RIR … Following his duties behind the wheel of the No. 2 BB&T Chevy, Bowyer will turn his attention to the No. 07 Jack Daniel’s Chevrolet Impala SS for Saturday’s Chevy Rock & Roll 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race. Live coverage of the 26th points-paying race on the 2007 schedule will take the green flag Saturday, September 8th beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will be televised live on ABC and broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the final race before the Chase for the NEXTEL Cup begins will be televised live on ESPN2 Friday, September 7 at 6 p.m. EDT.
  • Up to Speed … The Emerson Radio 250 from Richmond International Raceway will be televised live on ESPN2 Friday, September 7 beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT. The race will also be broadcast live on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying will be televised live on ESPN2 on the same day beginning at 4 p.m. EDT.

    CLINT BOWYER QUOTE:
As the defending Busch Series winner at Richmond, what do you remember about that race?
“It was a lot of fun. Anytime you can beat Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton for a win, you’re having fun. Hopefully, we can back that up. I know we’re taking the same BB&T Chevrolet that won us the race in May so I have a lot of confidence going in. Richmond is a lot of fun and it’s one of those races that I always look forward to.”
