WIX FILTERS LAP LEADER NOTES FOR THE ARIZONA.TRAVEL 200 NASCAR BUSCH SERIES AT PHOENIX INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY, NOVEMBER 10, 2007.
Mike Wallace CLINCHED the 2007 WIX Filters Lap Leader Award in today’s race ARIZONA.TRAVEL 200. Wallace leads Jason Leffler by two races (6-4) in the overall WIX Filters Lap Leader standings entering the final race of the season.
UNOFFICIALLY Wallace is 11th in the NASCAR Busch Series championship standings, 11 points behind 10th-place Matt Kenseth and 169 ahead of 12th-place Clint Bowyer.
Wallace earned $20,000 from WIX Filters for his accomplishments this season. The WIX Filters Lap Leader Award is presented to the driver who leads the most laps during each race in NASCAR’s NEXTEL Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck racing series. In order to be eligible for the WIX Filters Lap Leader Award for a single event, drivers and teams in each series must run the WIX Filters decal on the front fender and use WIX oil or air filters in their vehicles. Additionally, for any year-end payout, teams must run the decal on the front fender for every race they participate in, with an allowance for one race, and they must always use WIX oil or air filters.
Scott Wimmer led once for two laps to earn WIX Filters Lap Leader of the Race honors in today’s ARIZONA.TRAVEL 200. Wimmer led for the first time since the race at Gateway International Raceway (race No. 21). He has led 10 times in five races for a total of 137 laps.
Wimmer finished fourth in today race at Phoenix, his seventh top-five and 14th top-10.
WIMMER QUOTES: “It wasn’t too bad. We didn’t lead many laps but we got out there and got five bonus points. I’m proud of my guys. They did a great job and real close to clinching that owner’s championship, which is going to be exciting for the whole team. I’ve got to thank WIX and all they do. It’s good to win an award like that. I’ve got to feel bad that I finished fourth and I got the lap leader award but I’m glad that we at least got it.” WAS IT DISAPPOINTING THAT YOU DIDN’T WIN A RACE? “It was disappointing. I’ve run so limited. I’ve run a part-time schedule this year and it’s just hard to get any sort of momentum when you’re in the car one week and out of it for three and in it for two and back out of it. It was just really hard to get a lot of momentum. But I feel good. I’ve got a lot of top-fives, a lot of top-10s and a lot of seconds. We put ourselves in position to win races. We just didn’t close the deal. I’ll be back with this team next year and hopefully we can do it.”
