Arizona.Travel 200 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes
MARCOS AMBROSE IN THE No. 59 KINGSFORD/BASHAS’ FORD WAS THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT PHOENIX.
Notes:
Ambrose scored a 15th-place finish and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the sixth time this season.
AMBROSE: “We made chicken salad of what we had right there. It was a long day. We fought all day. We never gave up. We went a lap down, fought it back and got the car better and just held on to the end. I just want to show my guys, Kingsford and everybody, that I’m worthy to be here and I’m worthy to have a shot at next year. I want to pay back everybody that give so much to my racing. Today was an example that we don’t give up and keep fighting all the way to the end.” DID YOUR CAR GET BETTER AND BETTER AS THE RACE WENT ON? “We just kept tuning on it, keep working on it, and just drove harder.”
BRAD COLEMAN, No. 18 CARINO’S ITALIAN GRILL CHEVROLET: “It was decent. I think we could have gotten a top-15, maybe a top-10. We were sitting 12th with two restarts to go and on the second to last restart that lapped car got stuck in the middle. I was passing everyone on the high line. It was going great and then the lapped car was going real slow and I almost spun out hitting the brakes trying to avoid it and fell back to like 18th or something and we worked our way back up to 16th. I’m really proud of the Carino’s Italian Grill Chevrolet team members. It’s my last race with Joe Gibbs Racing so it’s pretty sad but I’m still going to go work out at their shop everyday so they’ll still see me.” THERE WAS A LOT OF AGGRESSIVE RACING IN THE PACK OF CARS THAT YOU WERE IN AT THE END OF THE RACE. “I mean that was worse than Bristol in my opinion. Everyone was bumping each other. You can look at my car. I’ve
got fuel cell indents, I’ve got wheel marks, I’ve got everything.” YOU WILL BE RACING FULL-TIME NEXT YEAR IN THE BUSCH SERIES. “I’m really happy. I’m going to go for that Nationwide championship with Brewco Motorsports and Kleenex. It’s a great opportunity. I’m really excited about it.”
BRAD KESELOWSKI, No. 88 U.S. NAVY CHEVROLET: “I faded and I don’t know why. I don’t know what happened. I faded hard at the end there and I’m not sure why. The handle went away and nothing I could do to make it any better. I don’t know. Some of the guys came in and got tires and we didn’t, maybe that was it. When we came in and got tires on the green-white-checkered, we were dynamite. It didn’t work out but it did look like for a long time that we were going to get a top-10 out of it but it just didn’t work out.” THE RACE ENDED JUST BEFORE SUNSET. DID THE TRACK COOL OFF A LOT AND DID THAT THROW YOU A CURVE? “Oh yeah, that’s playing games with you and that makes it really tough. You never know which way to adjust and where to go. I don’t know if we just fell behind or if everyone just caught us on the tire side.” YOU WERE IN A PACK OF CARS THAT WERE REALY RACING HARD NEAR THE END OF THE RACE. “Yeah, that was where the really good racing was going on. I had a lot of fun and was glad that we came out in one piece.”
DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD: “We just fought poor track position all day and some of those other guys behind us the last 50 laps had fresh tires on. Our car was okay at times and it wasn’t okay at times. It was just really a weird day for us. We practiced good, qualified average and at the start of the race it was really tight. We made an adjustment and it got really loose on us. I was back and forth. We really didn’t know which way to go. I didn’t really know what I needed to be better but we rode around the top-15 there and then there at the end we probably should have came in and got tires. When you’re riding on the edge and you stay out on tires it makes it tough. And then when we fell back there to where all the lapped cars were racing hard we kind of got what we asked for racing back there in the back. I saw 25 and everybody wrecking in front of me and as soon as I could get off the throttle I’d already run over whoever that was in front of me. I hate that we got involved in all that junk but that’s kind of what we deserved for being back there.” WERE YOU LUCKY TO FINISH? “Yeah we are. It didn’t tear up the chassis or anything. We came in and put two new tires on the right side and patched it up a little bit. The flat tires pushed the door and some stuff like that. We wish we could have got that top-15 or top-10. It just wasn’t meant to be, wasn’t good enough.”
