Phoenix Preview
KESELOWSKI LOOKING TO KEEP TOP-10 STREAK ALIVE AT PHOENIX
After back-to-back top-10 finishes at Memphis and Texas, Brad Keselowski and the No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet team will travel to Phoenix International Raceway for Saturday ‘s NASCAR Busch Series ARIZONA.TRAVEL 200.
Prior to the race at Phoenix, Keselowski will visit Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego on Wednesday. Balboa is one of the two training centers for Navy corpsmen. While there, Keselowski will meet with the students and tour the facility.
On Veterans Day weekend the JR Motorsports No. 88 Navy team will honor the casualties and survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor with a special Pearl Harbor Survivors Association decal on the Chevrolet Monte Carlo. On Dec. 7, 1941, 2,390 U.S. personnel were killed and 1,178 U.S. personnel were wounded in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The association was formed in 1958 with the goal to “Remember Pearl Harbor – Keep America Alert.”
Keselowski has two previous starts at PIR, one in the Busch Series and one in Truck competition. His best finish at Phoenix is 27th.
In three starts at Phoenix International Raceway, JR Motorsports has scored one top-five finish. In last year’s ARIZONA.TRAVEL 200, the No. 88 Navy team started the race from fourth, led 17 laps and finished eighth.
The No. 88 team will race chassis No. 378 this weekend at PIR. In the car’s last outing, Keselowski finished ninth two weeks ago at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Last weekend Keselowski finished sixth in the Busch Series O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway. It was the rookie driver’s fifth top-10 run since joining the JR Motorsports No. 88 Navy team in July.
Brad Keselowski, Driver, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo
“I’m really looking forward to the race in Phoenix. We had a really strong performance at Memphis in the car we’re taking to Phoenix. I was really impressed with how well it turned. I don’t think I’ve been in a car that turned that well before, so that gives me a lot of confidence going into this weekend.
“I’m also looking forward to going out to San Diego and meeting with all the sailors and students there. Coming into this deal with JR Motorsports, I didn’t really know a whole lot about the Navy. Meeting with sailors each week at the track and getting out to the bases across the country has really given me a greater appreciation for all the Navy does for our country, so I’m excited to go out to San Diego and see what that facility and its staff are all about.”
Navy Notables
The fleet honoree for Saturday’s race at Phoenix International Raceway is Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC). NBVC is a major aviation shore command and a major Naval Construction Force mobilization base providing airfield, seaport, and base support services to fleet operating forces and shore activities. A national defense resource, NBVC offers a unique combination of mission capabilities to the Navy and the Department of Defense (DoD). NBVC and its tenants employ more than 6,000 civilians, 9,000 military personnel and 1,300 contractor personnel. In addition, NBVC hosts more than 100 tenant commands. Approximately 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles and 45 miles south of Santa Barbara, NBVC responsible properties total more than 19,945 acres. Comprising the bulk of NBVC property is Point Mugu, Port Hueneme, and San Nicolas Island (SNI), one of the eight Channel Islands off the California coast in the vicinity of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. Other properties which are part of NBVC include Camarillo Military Family Housing Area, Laguna Peak, training at Fort Hunter Liggett and telemetry at Santa Cruz Island for the Pacific Sea Range.
