Ron Hornaday
No. 77 Dollar General Stores Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Team Report
NASCAR Busch Series Race 34 of 35 – Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway

PHOENIX (ARIZ.) INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY FACTS & STATS:

  • NUMBER 10 AT PIR: Ron Hornaday will make his 10th NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) career start at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.
  • DOUBLE DUTY: Ron Hornaday will make his fifth and final start in the NASCAR Busch Series this season for Kevin Harvick Inc. driving the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Silverado on Friday evening in the Truck Series event and returning Saturday to pilot the No. 77 Dollar General stores Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS.
  • HORNADAY AT PHOENIX: Ron Hornaday has a lot of experience at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (PIR), and has made a name for himself, in several different divisions over the years. Hornaday has competed in the NASCAR Southwest Series, West Series, Truck, Busch and Cup Series at PIR. Hornaday made his first start at PIR in 1985 driving a modified in the Copper Classic.
  • ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS: Ron Hornaday made his first NASCAR Truck Series start at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (PIR) on February 5, 1995. Hornaday qualified the Dale Earnhardt Incorporated No. 16 Truck on the pole for the 80-lap event. Hornaday went into the history books as the first driver to win a pole in the inaugural season of the NASCAR Truck Series.
  • KHI HISTORY: Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) team co-owner Kevin Harvick made history for his up-and-coming race team on November 2, 2002. Marking the seventh time that KHI entered a truck in the NASCAR Truck Series (NCTS), Harvick wheeled the No. 6 Chevrolet Silverado from a third-place starting position to win the Chevy Silverado 150 at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (PIR). Harvick returned to PIR on October 31, 2003 for the NCTS event, and found himself back in victory lane after starting second in the No. 6 Looney Tunes Back In Action Chevrolet.

RON HORNADAY QUOTES: “I’m really looking forward to racing both Friday and Saturday for Kevin and DeLana (Harvick). Driving the No. 77 Dollar General stores Chevrolet will keep my mind off all the excitement surrounding the Truck Championship. It’s just another race weekend for KHI and myself. Phoenix (Ariz.) is just one of those tracks that I’ve loved since I first raced there. It’s been an important track to me and my career coming from the West Coast and trying to make a name for myself.”

CREW CHIEF CORNER WITH WALLY ROGERS:

  • Hornaday has amassed a lot of experience and turned hundreds of laps around Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway. What are your expectations for this weekend with Hornaday piloting the No. 77 Dollar General stores Chevrolet? “You can’t ask for a better short-track racer than Ron Hornaday. I’m really not putting a whole lot of pressure on Hornaday this week going into Phoenix (Ariz.). He’s in the thick of a Championship battle in the Truck Series, so I’m just going to let him do what’s he’s best at…race hard and leave nothing on the table. There is no doubt in my mind that he won’t put every amount of effort he has into practicing, qualifying and racing the Dollar General stores Chevrolet.”
