NOTES:

  • This Week’s Holiday Inn Chevrolet at Phoenix International Raceway … Scott Wimmer will pilot Chassis No. 070 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new in 2007, Wimmer drove this Holiday Inn Chevy to a seventh-place finish at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. He also captured the pole at Gateway International Raceway and drove to a second-place finish in July with this race car. Wimmer also finished second in June at The Milwaukee Mile with this chassis. Jeff Burton drove this No. 29 Chevy to a third-place finish at Phoenix International Raceway in April and raced to a third-place finish at Richmond International Raceway in May. Most recently, Wimmer drove this Monte Carlo SS to an eight-place finish at Richmond International Raceway in September.
  • Top of the Charts … Based on Burton’s eighth-place finish last week at Texas, the No. 29 team maintained a 113-point lead in the NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) owners’ championship point standings. The potent duo of Burton and Wimmer have earned four victories, one pole, 15 top-five and 25 top-10 finishes in 33 starts.
  • Crunching Numbers … The No. 29 team will claim the NBS owners’ championship at Phoenix if they gain 83 points on the Joe Gibbs’ No. 20 machine and leave with a 196-point lead.
  • Wimmer at Phoenix … Wimmer has earned one win, one top-five and three top-10 finishes in five NBS starts at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) and has led 16 laps.
  • The Last Hurrah … This weekend’s race is the final race of 16 that Wimmer is scheduled to drive the Holiday Inn Chevrolet. Burton will be behind the wheel for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway
  • RCR Busch Cars at Phoenix … In 22 previous Busch Series starts at PIR, RCR has posted two wins (Harvick, April 2006 and Clint Bowyer, April 2007), one pole (Harvick, November 2003), 11 top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 372 laps.
  • RCR Busch Brigade … In 33 NBS races this season, RCR has claimed 12 victories with the most recent coming at Texas Motor Speedway with Harvick. • Leading the Way in Owner Wins … Childress leads the 2007 NBS in owner wins with 12 – tying last year’s season total – the most recent coming last week at Texas Motor Speedway with Harvick.

    SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES:
What is it about Phoenix that you tend to run well?
“I was fortunate in 2002 to win the Busch Series race at Phoenix and have had some pretty good runs there. Phoenix is a flat one-mile track and it makes for good racing. Hopefully, we can get the Holiday Inn Chevy out front and run well.”

What are the keys to getting around Phoenix?
“Phoenix is an interesting track because it is a mix between a short track and an intermediate track. Turns one and two are a bit different from three and four. That makes for quite a challenge because you have to set up the car somewhere in between. I am excited to see what we can do with the Holiday Inn Chevrolet this weekend and, hopefully, we can pick up some more ground in the owners’ championship.”
