Event Preview Fact Sheet

Event/Date: Arizona Travel 200 – November 10, 2007
Venue: Phoenix International Raceway – Avondale, Ariz.

NOTES:

  • This Week’s BB&T Chevrolet at Phoenix International Raceway … Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 069 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) stable. Built new for 2007, this is the same car Bowyer raced to wins earlier this season at Phoenix (St. 2 – Fn. 1) and Richmond International Raceway (St. 8 – Fn. 1). The Emporia, Kan., native also finished sixth with this car in July at New Hampshire International Speedway. Most recently, this BB&T Chevrolet saw action in September at Richmond but was scored 33rd in the final rundown after an incident on pit road cost Bowyer four laps.
  • Pretty Sporty Stuff … In 20 NBS starts this season, Bowyer has amassed two wins, 12 top-five and 17 top-10 finishes. Despite sitting out 13 of the division’s 33 races to date, the five-time Busch Series winner has led 308 laps and climbed one spot, from 14th to 13th in driver points, after finishing fourth last weekend in Texas. Bowyer is scheduled to compete in the last two races on the 2007 schedule behind the wheel of the BB&T Chevy.
  • Ring the Bell, We Have a Winner … Bowyer is the defending Busch Series winner at PIR after notching his fourth-career victory in April in the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200. Bowyer started on the outside pole, led five times for 120 laps and beat Matt Kenseth and teammate Jeff Burton to the checkered flag.
  • RCR Busch Cars at Phoenix … In 22 previous Busch Series starts at PIR, RCR has posted one pole (Kevin Harvick, November 2003), two wins (Harvick, April 2006 and Bowyer, April 2007), 11 top-five and 12 top-10 finishes. RCR cars have also led 372 laps.
  • RCR Busch Brigade … In 33 NBS races this season, RCR has claimed 12 victories with the most recent coming last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway when Harvick claimed the checkered flag in the O’Reilly Challenge. Harvick leads RCR with six wins this season, Jeff Burton has four and Bowyer has two. Additionally, the three RCR Busch teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 38 top-five and 57 top-10 finishes while leading 1,353 laps. Team owner Richard Childress leads the division in wins this season.
  • 50 Wins for the Good Guys … With Harvick’s win last weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, RCR has tallied 50 NASCAR Busch Series wins and maintains the second spot in the owner victory standings.
  • Quiet on the Set … On Tuesday, November 6, Bowyer participated in a commercial shoot at Concord (N.C.) Motorsports Park for the “NASCAR Home Track” campaign. Launched in 2007, the NASCAR Home Tracks brand represents approximately 70 tracks that host NASCAR regional and local racing. The brand was introduced as a national advertising campaign that included TV, radio, print and web advertising. The 2008 campaign will be a continuation of the 2007 effort to raise awareness and interest in NASCAR’s regional touring series and local racing.
  • 50 Years and Counting … To help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chevrolet Impala nameplate and the 50th running of the Daytona 500, Chevrolet will offer 50 race fans from 50 different states a once-in-a-lifetime weekend experience at the 50th running of the Daytona 500 on Feb. 17, 2008. At the same time, 10 of those individuals will win a brand new Chevy Impala. Beginning on Oct. 16 and through Dec. 3, fans can visit www.chevy.com/Daytona500 to enter.
  • Double Down on the Desert Mile … Following his duties in the BB&T Chevrolet, Bowyer will turn his attention to the Jack Daniel’s Chevy Impala SS for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race. The Checker Auto Parts 500 presented by Pennzoil from Phoenix International Raceway will take the green flag Sunday, November 11 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST). The race will be televised live on ABC beginning at 3 p.m. EST and broadcast worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the ninth round of NASCAR’s 10-race playoffs will be televised live on ESPN2 Friday, November 9 at 5:30 p.m. EST. MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio will provide qualifying updates live. Bowyer is third in the Chase for the NASCAR Cup and trails leader Jimmie Johnson by 181 points.
  • Up to Speed … The Arizona Travel 200 will be televised live on ESPN2 Saturday, November 10 beginning at 4 p.m. EST. The race will also be broadcast live on MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 34th of 35 races on the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series schedule will be televised live on SPEED the same day beginning at noon EST.

    CLINT BOWYER QUOTES
You won earlier this year at Phoenix and you’re looking for your third Busch Series win this year. What are your thoughts heading into this weekend?
“I’m really looking forward to this weekend. Obviously, we won the spring race so it’s always fun to go back somewhere as the defending winner. We’re taking the same car back and that’s a very fast BB&T Chevrolet. I’m excited about getting unloaded and seeing if that car still has the same magic it had back in April. Hopefully, we can prove ourselves again.”

It seems like when you show up with that car and you climb in, if you leave with anything less than a win, or a top-five at the very least, you’ve had a bad day. That’s pretty impressive.
“We’ve had a lot of success with that car. We haven’t run a whole lot of Busch races this year – I guess about two-thirds of the races – but when we do, we’re usually a top-five car. A bad day for us has been a top 10. That always reminds me that it wasn’t very long ago when I’d be tickled pink with a top 10 in the Busch car.”
