Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 - David Stremme Notes

David Stremme Advance
Phoenix International Raceway

Race: Basha’s Supermarkets 200 on Friday, April 20, 2007
Track: Phoenix International Raceway (1-mile tri-oval)
Location: Avondale, Ariz.

David Stremme and the No. 41 Wrigley’s Winterfresh Dodge Team Facts:

  • Play it again, Stremme: David Stremme will climb back in the Wrigley’s Winterfresh Dodge this weekend to make his second start in the No. 41 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates (CGRFS) Dodge this season, which will also mark his third-career start for the CGRFS Busch program. Stremme’s last run with the No. 41 Wrigley’s team at Nashville Superspeedway earlier this month was highlighted with him scoring his second-career NASCAR pole and then an 11th-place finish.

  • Lounge in Your Town: Based upon recent research conducted by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, more than 50 percent of college students surveyed rely on chewing gum to relieve stress and tension (52 percent), as well as increase focus and concentration (25 percent) when preparing for the much dreaded semester final exams. To help students with their stress relief, Wrigley is hosting a “Lounge in Your Town” tour that will take a “Gum Lounge” to eight college campuses around the country. The “Gum Lounge” will visit the college students during peak finals season to provide free massages, live DJs, fresh college gear, free samples of Extra and Eclipse Fusion gum, Foosball and most importantly—study tips. The tour will wave its green flag this week, making its first pit stop at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, Tenn., April 18 and 19. From there it will head to other schools in California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas throughout the rest of this month and May. For more information go to www.wrigleysfinalsrelief.com.

  • Standings Update: This past weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, Reed Sorenson and the No. 41 Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit team seemed to have a black cloud looming over their heads as they again got caught up in circumstances out of their control. Sorenson got caught up in an accident that began just in front of him coming out of Turn 4 on lap 69. He drove onto the front stretch grass to avoid the wreck and got a little sideways in the process. As he wheeled the No. 41 Dodge back onto the track and was almost in the clear he got tagged by the same car (No. 66) that started the accident to begin with. Sorenson went to the garage for repairs and returned to the track many laps down to pick up a few positions and valuable points, eventually calling it a day in 35th place. The No. 41 team now stands 31st in the overall Busch Series owner points, with a current tally of 691. The team is just 61 points outside of the top 20.

  • In Stremme’s Other Garage Stall: Stremme is coming off of a memorable race at Texas Motor Speedway in the Samsung 500 Sunday that concluded with 10th-place finish for the 29-year-old racer. The top 10 marked Stremme’s best finish thus far in his young NASCAR NEXTEL Cup racing career. He and the No. 40 CGRFS Cup team now stand 12th in the championship rundown with 779 points and are just 26 steps outside the top 10. Stremme’s finish, along with Juan Pablo Montoya’s eighth, marked the two highest finishing positions for Dodge in Sunday’s race and also helped the No. 40 crew maintain its status as the highest ranking Dodge team in the NEXTEL Cup Series.

  • Chassis: Wrigley’s Winterfresh cool blue colors will adorn chassis #655 this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) in the first night race of the 2007 season. The only other time chassis #655 has raced was at PIR last fall, when Reed Sorenson and the No. 41 CGRFS Busch team turned a top-15 start (13th) into a top-10 finish (seventh).

  • When to Watch: The Basha’s Supermarkets 200 is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. ET Friday, April 14, and will broadcast live on ESPN2 (TV), MRN (Radio) and Sirius Satellite Radio channel 128. Qualifying for the 200-mile race is scheduled to start at 5:35 p.m. ET Friday and will broadcast live on SPEED.
