Kroger 200 - Cale Gale Notes

Cale Gale
No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Team Report
NASCAR Busch Series Race 22 of 35 — O’Reilly Raceway Park

BUSCH SERIES 250 RACE RECAP: Cale Gale was behind the wheel of the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet at Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway for the NASCAR Busch Series race. After qualifying 35th, Gale quickly made his way into the top 20. Gale was racing in the 18th position, on lap 131, when he was caught up in an accident, causing him to slam into the inside retaining wall. With major damage to the right side of the car, Gale made an unscheduled pit stop, so the crew could assess the damage and make repairs. Despite his attempt to drive the battered machine to the finish, the damage proved to be too extensive and Gale took the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet to the garage on lap138, finishing the race in the 29th position.

THE NEW KID: When Cale Gale straps into the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet this week, he will be making his 10th NASCAR Busch Series start, but his first at O’Reilly Raceway Park. The Mobile, Ala. native will be considered a new kid to the 0.686-mile oval and will have the opportunity to participate in NASCAR’s rookie practice since he has never raced there.

DOUBLE DUTY: In addition to racing the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet in Saturday’s Kroger 200, Gale will jump behind the wheel of the No. 2 Camping World Chevrolet in the NASCAR Truck Series. Cale will pull double duty for the second time this year. The first came back at the Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, when Gale participated in the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) and the NASCAR Busch Series race where he finished second and 27th respectively.

RUNNING IT: The No. 33 Camping World team will unload chassis No. 023 this weekend at O’Reilly (Ind.) Raceway Park. This will mark the fifth race with chassis No. 023 for the No. 33 team in 2007. Earlier this year, Kevin Harvick drove this chassis to an eighth-place finish at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

TEAM EFFORT: With the help of Cale Gale, Ron Fellows, Tony Raines, Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick, KHI’s No. 33 Chevrolet has been inside the top-10 in NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) Owner’s Point Standings all season long. After 21 races the No. 33 Chevrolet currently sits fifth in the point standings heading into O’Reilly Raceway Park.

DID YOU KNOW: O’Reilly Raceway Park (ORP) was formerly known as Indianapolis (Ind.) Raceway Park (IRP). Race fans remember the famed short track as IRP. NASCAR’s top drivers have competed in one form of racing or another at IRP. IRP has hosted NASCAR Truck and Busch Series events just to name a few. Team co-owner Kevin Harvick has two wins at IRP, and Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) driver Ron Hornaday has two wins there as well.

STILL TO COME: The No. 33 team will continue its swap of drivers behind the wheel over the next few weeks. Following racing at O’Reilly Raceway Park, Ron Fellows will drive the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet in Montreal, followed by Watkins Glen where he will pilot the No. 33 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet. Tony Stewart will jump back behind the wheel and drive the No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Following MIS, Kevin Harvick will drive the No. 33 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, California Speedway and Richmond (Va.) International Raceway.

CALE GALE QUOTES:
ON PULLING DOUBLE DUTY AT A TRACK HE HAS NEVER RACED AT: “ORP is a short track, which I grew up on. Even though I have never raced at this track, having the opportunity to do so in the Truck Series on Friday night will only help me in the Busch race on Saturday.”

DAN STILLMAN QUOTES:
ON O’REILLY RACEWAY PARK: “O’Reilly Raceway Park is a unique race track. It is a track that has seen a lot of beating and banging racing. The track reminds me of the local short track racing on Saturday night back in Wisconsin.”

HAVING CALE BEHIND THE WHEEL AT ORP: “Cale should do well at ORP, since he started racing on short tracks back in Alabama. He will get the opportunity this weekend to race in the Truck Series race on Friday night so he should have a good feel of the track before Saturday night.”
