Shane Huffman
Federated Auto Parts 300 Preview

HUFFMAN LOOKING FOR ANOTHER TOP-10 RUN AT NASHVILLE SUPERSPEEDWAY

  • Shane Huffman will return to Nashville Superspeedway on Saturday for the NASCAR Busch Series Federated Auto Parts 300 to back up the sixth-place finish the Navy team scored at the track earlier this season. In April Huffman qualified 12th and led 28 laps before finishing sixth in the Pepsi 300.
  • On Thursday, Huffman will participate in the 17th Annual City of Hope Celebrity Softball Challenge at Greer Stadium in Nashville. Huffman will join a roster filled with country music superstars, including Rodney Atkins and Clint Black, and members of the Tennessee Titan’s NFL team on Blair Garner’s After MidNite team. They will face the Grand Ole Opry Live team, which is scheduled to include American Idol alum Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill and Trick Pony. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and proceeds will benefit City of Hope, a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
  • The JR Motorsports team will run Chassis No. 023 in Saturday’s race. Huffman finished 24th two weeks ago at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in this car.
  • Fourteen races into the 2007 season, the No. 88 Navy team has two top-10 finishes. Huffman is currently 21st in the driver point standings and the JR Motorsports team is 27th in owner standings.
  • In 25 NASCAR Busch Series starts, Huffman has scored one top five, four top 10s and led 45 laps.

The last race at Nashville marked your highest finish of the season. What are you thoughts on returning a couple months later?
“That race at Nashville was awesome! The car was really good and Wes (Ward, crew chief) made great calls to keep us up front all night. We’re taking the same car back this weekend, so I’ve got a good feeling about this race. We’ve just got to focus on running well, stay out of trouble and have great pit stops.”

You’re participating in a celebrity softball challenge this weekend. How’s your game?
“I think they’ve got me at second base for the game. It should be a lot of fun. I’ve always been a big fan of country music, so it’ll be pretty cool to get to meet all the players on the teams. It’s a pretty stacked roster. I’m also a big fan of playing softball, so I’m looking forward to getting out there and competing. I’ve played in leagues before, but I haven’t thrown a ball in probably close to a year, so I guess I should probably spend some time practicing before we fly out this week.”

    Navy Notables
The fleet honoree for Saturday’s race at Nashville Superspeedway is the USS Ronald Reagan – CVN 76.
