Pepsi 300 - Shane Huffman Notes
Shane Huffman
Pepsi 300 Preview
HUFFMAN AND NAVY TEAM READY TO RACE IN MUSIC CITY
Shane Huffman will make his first start at Nashville Superspeedway in the No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS on Saturday in the NASCAR Busch Series Pepsi 300.
Saturday’s race will be Huffman’s first on the track, but Huffman attended last year’s race with the Navy team and spent the afternoon serving as crew chief for a rookie driver in the ARCA RE/MAX Series.
JR Motorsports will run chassis No. JRM 022 this Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway. In the car’s last run, Huffman finished ninth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway collecting the team’s best run of the season.
Even though Huffman has never competed at Nashville Superspeedway, he is no stranger to winning in the Music City. In 2003, Huffman won the USAR Hooters Pro Cup race at the fairgrounds track, now known as Music City Motorplex.
Today Huffman returned to school, middle school that is. The Hickory, N.C., native visited his alma mater, H. M. Arndt Middle School, to have lunch with a group of students.
Last week the No. 88 Navy team spent Tuesday and Wednesday testing at Richmond International Speedway. Huffman ended the test fourth fastest in the final session on Wednesday evening.
In the team’s last race two weeks ago at Bristol Motor Speedway, Huffman qualified 14th and finished 38th after getting caught up in a wreck.

What are your thoughts going into this weekend in Nashville?
“Nashville looks like a pretty cool track. I’ve raced at the old fairgrounds track in Nashville before, but haven’t made my way around the superspeedway yet. I won my first race in Nashville a few years ago and the city has always been kind to me. We’re taking the same car we finished ninth in at Vegas a few weeks back, so I’m confident the weekend will go really well for the Navy team.”
How’d the test at Richmond go?
“We weren’t great right off the truck and to tell you the truth, we struggled a bit the first afternoon. Wes (Ward, crew chief) and Dale (Ferguson, engineer) got together that night and they made a few changes the next day and picked up a ton. We ended up really happy with Navy Chevy by the end of the test. I think we’ve got something for them when we go back next month.”
Navy Notables
The fleet honoree for Saturday’s race at Nashville Superspeedway is the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). USTRANSCOM’s core competencies are evolving beyond planning and executing inter-theater transportation. Since 2003, USTRANSCOM also has been responsible for the synchronization, alignment and interoperability of distribution-related activities supporting force projection, sustaining and redeployment/retrograde of military forces and material. USTRANSCOM, located at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, is one of nine combatant commands. In May 2006, the Deputy Secretary of Defense re-designated USTRANSCOM as the Department of Defense Distribution Process Owner. This role expands upon USTRANSCOM’s mission of being the chief architect of the Department of Defense’s global transportation enterprise.
