Camping World 200 - Shane Huffman Notes
HUFFMAN LOOKING TO CARRY MOMENTUM INTO RACE AT NEW HAMPSHIRE
After back-to-back top-10 finishes in his last two races, Shane Huffman, driver of the No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo, will make his first-career start at New Hampshire International Speedway in Saturday’s NASCAR Busch Series Camping World 200.
On Thursday Huffman and his JR Motorsports team owner, Dale Earnhardt Jr., will visit the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, Miss. While there they will learn how to maneuver MTVRs (Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement) and front-end loaders, tour the Naval Construction Training Center and meet with a number of the Navy SEABEEs stationed on the base.
Last year at New Hampshire the No. 88 team started 26th and finished 11th in the New England 200.
The JR Motorsports team will run Chassis No. JRM 021 in Saturday’s Camping World 200. The No. 88 team finished 18th at Richmond in this car. Huffman also drove this car to a fifth-place finish last year at Memphis.
Last weekend at The Milwaukee Mile Huffman and the Navy team started fifth and finished 10th. The No. 88 Chevy was inside the top 10 for most of the race and never ran lower than 13th over the course of the 250-lap event.
Almost halfway through the 2007 season, Huffman has racked up one top-five and four top-10 finishes, and is currently ranked 12th in the Busch Series driver standings.
Shane Huffman, Driver, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
“I haven’t competed at New Hampshire before, but I did travel up there with the Navy team last year and watched most of the Busch and Cup practice from the top of the hauler. I was able to observe the different lines guys were running, so I have a sense of where I need to be when we first go out for practice. We have almost three hours of practice on Friday, so we’ll probably spend the first part of it letting me get acclimated to the track and go from there. We’re taking one of my favorite cars, so it should be a good weekend for the Navy team.”
Wes Ward, Crew Chief, No. 88 Navy Accelerate Your Life Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
“Shane’s never raced at New Hampshire before, but I’m sure he will adapt well to the track when we practice on Friday. The Navy team is taking a good car for him this weekend and Shane has run well at one-mile tracks in the past. The car we’re taking to New Hampshire is the same one he finished eighth with at Phoenix last fall and the two tracks are fairly similar.”
Navy Notables
The fleet honoree for Saturday’s race at New Hampshire International Speedway is the USS Louisville (SSN 724). The USS Louisville is one of the Navy's Los Angeles Fast Attack submarines and exemplifies a truly multi-mission platform - from open ocean Anti-Submarine Warfare to surveillance and intelligence gathering in the preparation/prevention of regional crises. Like her sister ships, the USS Louisville is an agile asset for Battle Group and Joint Task Force Commanders. Its protective cloak of stealth and unlimited endurance allows her to maneuver with impunity, even in the most sensitive forward areas. The Los Angeles Class Fast Attack Submarines transit at high speeds, undetected, independent of sea state, and arrive on station ready for action.
