NOTES:
This Week’s Race Car at Memphis Motorsports Park … Scott Wimmer will pilot Chassis No. 041 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. Built new in 2005 and run as the No. 2 machine, Clint Bowyer drove this chassis at Kansas (St. 10, Fn. 16) and Texas (St. 20, Fn. 7). Last season, Bowyer raced this car at Nashville in April (St. 2, Fn. 2) and again in June (St. 4, Fn. 2). Since then, this Holiday Inn Chevrolet has received all the required 2007 updates. This season, Wimmer drove this chassis at Nashville in April (St. 14, Fn. 7) and again in June (St. 9, Fn. 4).
Top of the Charts … Based on Jeff Burton’s win two weeks ago at Charlotte, the No. 29 team maintained a 116 point lead in the NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) owners’ championship point standings. The potent duo of Burton and Wimmer have earned four victories, one pole, 15 top-five and 23 top-10 finishes in 31 starts.
Wimmer at Memphis … Wimmer has earned one win, one top-five and three top-10 finishes in four NBS starts at Memphis Motorsports Park and has led 93 laps. This weekend’s race is the 15th of 16 that he is scheduled to drive the Holiday Inn Chevrolet.
Look Again … Holiday Inn revved up its employees’ creativity by providing them the opportunity to redesign the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet for this weekend’s Sam’s Town 250. Employee Steve Green will be on hand in Memphis to see his winning design take to the track.
RCR at Memphis … Richard Childress leads the NBS car owner victories list with three – Kevin Harvick (2000 and 2006) and Bowyer (2005). In 16 starts at the 0.75-mile oval, Childress boasts one pole, nine top-five and 10 top-10 finishes with nine different drivers including Harvick, Mike Dillon, Johnny Sauter, Jay Sauter, Ron Hornaday, Jr., Michael Lewis, Bowyer, Brandon Miller and Timothy Peters.
RCR Busch Brigade … In 31 NBS races this season, RCR has claimed 11 victories with the most recent coming at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with Burton. Harvick leads the way with five, Burton has four and Bowyer has two. Additionally, the three RCR Busch teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 36 top-five and 53 top-10 finishes while leading 1,316 laps.
Leading the Way in Owner Wins … Childress leads the 2007 NBS in owner wins with 11 – the most recent coming two weeks ago at Lowe’s Motor Speedway with Burton.
Catch the Action … Live coverage of the Sam’s Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park will be televised live on ESPN2 Saturday, October 27 beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The race will also be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio.
SCOTT WIMMER QUOTES:
What is it about Memphis that you tend to run well?
“I have a lot of experience at Memphis. My first race there was in an ASA car in 2000. Of all the tracks that we race on, it is probably the one that I have the most laps on. I raced there before I made it to the Busch Series and it’s a place that I was able to adapt to real quick. I think it comes down to the fact that it is short track racing. It is what us as drivers love to do and what we grew up doing. It is an exciting race because a lot of strategy comes into play. Pit stops and track position are really important. I was fortunate in 2002 to win the Busch Series race and have had some good runs since then.”
Do you think about the NASCAR Busch Series owners’ championship as you go into each race?
“I don’t really let that affect me. We still go to the track each weekend and try to run the best that we can and to win the race. If we do that then the points will fall into place. We have the biggest lead we have had had all season with Jeff’s (Burton) win at Charlotte. It is coming to the time when we are going to have to start looking at the points and start looking at our strategy. We might have to be a little more conservative on our strategy so that we can get the most points possible. We have four tracks left that have been good for Jeff and I as well as RCR. I concentrate on winning races and if we can’t win then I want to get the most points possible.”
