Carfax 250 - Ford Post-Race Quotes
MATT KENSETH – No. 17 Arby’s Ford Fusion (qualified 12th, finished 2nd) – “We had a good car, we made pretty good adjustments. We got off a little bit there at the end, and really we just got beat out of the pits, and that was kind of the difference. It was a good day for us, came home second. Wish we could’ve been up there battling with ’em, but we had a good car.”
WHAT TYPES OF THINGS DID YOU LEARN ABOUT THE RACE TRACK TODAY? “The track changed a lot today, but it was a lot warmer out I think when we started and a little less overcast. I think these are going to be the conditions we’ll be racing under tomorrow. Learned a little bit about the track, and hopefully we can apply that to a good run tomorrow.”
GREG BIFFLE – No. 16 3M Ford Fusion (qualified 1st, finished 5th) – “Certainly, we wanted to be better than that. We weren’t that strong all day; they had us beat right from the start by just a little bit, and that was tough. But, we just kept working on it and just laid down a little bit there at the end and a couple of guys got us, but ended up with a top-five, so can’t complain about that.”
YOU SAT ON THE POLE, AND PRACTICED WELL IN CUP TODAY. ARE YOU CONFIDANT HEADING INTO TOMORROW? “Yeah, I’ve got confidence going into tomorrow, but I think tomorrow’s car is a lot like this one, so I’m a little nervous about if it’s going to be too tight about this car today.”
MARCOS AMBROSE – No. 59 Kingsford Ford Fusion (qualified 6th, finished 19th) – “It was a pretty good day for us. The end result wasn’t great. We had an imbalance there in the car we fought all day, but we raced hard all day. It’s probably the most patient I’ve been on the track. Super-happy with the way the car was feeling, just on its handling, even though we couldn’t get the tight out of it on the long run. We can rub on this thing, bring it back to California and I’m sure we’re going to have a better piece. I’m just really excited. It actually wasn’t a bad day.”
AFTER TWO CONSECUTIVE ROAD-COURSE RACES, HOW DID IT FEEL TO GET BACK ON AN OVAL? “I love getting back on the ovals. If I didn’t do another road race, it wouldn’t make me upset at all. I mean, I love this oval stuff so much that, for me, the road course now is a distraction.”
CARL EDWARDS – No. 60 Sharp Aquos (qualified 15th, finished 28th) – “First, congratulations to Denny Hamlin; he did a great job. All my guys on the Sharp Aquos team did well. Oh, well. We’ll just move on. We’ve got a great team. We’re going to Bristol; that’ll be a lot of fun.”
ON THE OWNER’S POINTS RACE. ARE YOU FEELING ANY PRESSURE? “Oh, yeah, we’re feeling the pressure. I mean, it’s a battle. It’s making it exciting for the fans. Those guys are doing a great job; Jeff Burton did a good job today. We’re not done battling, and I guess the only good that comes out of this is a good points battle for the owner’s championship. It’s just a very frustrating day, and hopefully we can work it out.”
MATT KENSETH press conference
MATT KENSETH – No. 17 Arby’s Ford Fusion – “It was pretty good. We had a pretty strong car. We were able to drive to the front right away and get up there and lead laps, and I thought we were going to have a shot at it. Me and Denny were having a heck of race there in the middle of the race, going back and forth, and we just didn’t adjust on the car enough that last pit stop and got the car too tight, and didn’t get out of the pits quick enough, and that was the difference.”
