Carfax 250 - Tony Stewart Notes

Tony Stewart
No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Team Report
NASCAR Busch Series Race 25 of 35 — Michigan International Speedway

ZIPPO 200 RECAP: Ron Fellows was once again behind the wheel of the No. 33 Chevrolet for Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) on Saturday for the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International. The RoadLoans.com Chevrolet of Fellows was strong all day, starting 14th and eventually leading the race. While in 12th place on the final lap, Fellows spun trying to gain position, bringing the No. 33 RoadLoans.com Chevrolet home with a 24th place finish.

ALL ABOUT THE FINISHES: Tony Stewart has compiled nine starts in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series season. In those nine starts, he has grabbed eight top -10 finishes, with his worst finish of the year coming at the California Speedway, where he finished 11th in a Joe Gibbs racing machine.

LOOKING FOR NINE STRAIGHT: Tony Stewart will be looking for nine straight top -10 finishes for Kevin Harvick Inc., dating back to this race one year ago. Stewart’s last race for KHI came five weeks ago at Chicagoland (Ill.) Speedway where Stewart finished eighth.

THIRD TIME’S A CHARM: The CARFAX 250 will be the third NASCAR Busch Series race that Stewart has entered at Michigan International Raceway. The Rushville, Ind. native made his previous starts in 2003 and 2006, where he finished 11th in both races.

CHASSIS DEBUT: The No. 33 Old Spice team will unload chassis No. 036 this weekend at the Michigan International Speedway. This will mark the first race with chassis No. 036 for the No. 33 team in 2007. “It is a brand new car that we have built and hopefully Stewart can break it in with a trip to Victory Lane,” said crew chief Dan Stillman.

74 AND COUNTING: Tony Stewart has 74 career NASCAR Busch Series starts. In those 74 starts, Stewart has two wins (Daytona ’05, ’06), four poles, 19 top-five and 26 top -10 finishes. Stewart’s two Busch Series wins both came driving Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) Chevrolets.

LOGGING MILES: Tony Stewart will drive a total of 650 miles this weekend at the Michigan International Speedway. Stewart will participate in the CARFAX 250 (NBS) on Saturday and the 3M Performance 400 (NNCS) on Sunday.

MICHIGAN CUP SUCCESS: Tony Stewart has 19 career starts in both the NASCAR Busch and Cup Series at Michigan International Speedway. Of those 19 starts, he has compiled 11 top -10 finishes including one win (2000, NNCS).

DOUBLE-DUTY IN MOTOWN: Tony Stewart will pull double-duty this weekend at the Michigan International Speedway for the tenth time this season. Stewart will compete in the CARFAX 250 Busch Series event on Saturday with Kevin Harvick Inc. and the 3M Performance 400 Cup Series race on Sunday with Joe Gibbs Racing.

THIS RACE ONE YEAR AGO: Tony Stewart drove the No. 33 Old Spice Chevrolet to an 11th-place finish last year at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Stewart started from the 14th position and competed well inside the top -10 for most of the afternoon. Stewart’s car was strongest on long runs, but a caution filled event limited the field to just one long green flag run of 50 laps. With 10 laps to go Stewart ran inside the top -10, but a late race restart saw him slip to 11th-place when he took the checkered flag.

800,000 REASONS TO CHEER: The NEXTEL Prelude to the Dream presented by Old Spice, which was broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View, raised $800,000 for charity. The 30-lap dirt late model event hosted by Tony Stewart at his famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, featured many NEXTEL Cup drivers. The Victory Junction Gang Camp will receive $600,000, while Motor Racing Outreach, the Autism Society of Delaware and the Tony Stewart Foundation will split the rest of the money. “This year’s Prelude to the Dream was our biggest yet, and the money it was able to raise for charity is a testament to all of the time and effort everyone put into it,” said Stewart. “From the drivers who participated in the race, to the fans who came to Eldora or watched it on HBO Pay-Per-View, to the media who covered it, to all the work everyone did behind the scenes to make the event first-class, it was a total team effort that made the Prelude so successful,” added Stewart. Carl Stealey, Old Spice associate marketing director, added, “We consider our relationship with Tony Stewart to be very special, and when our relationship can benefit the work of such great charitable organizations, it’s just hard to imagine it getting any better.”

MANUFACTURERS’ HOMECOMING: When the NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) races at the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) it is considered a “homecoming” for Chevrolet. Located one hour west of Detroit, MI., MIS is always an important race for teams and drivers to try and get to victory lane in front of their manufacturer and all of its employees.

Dan Stillman Quotes:
On Michigan International Speedway: "Michigan is one of those tracks that is really fast and has a lot of room to race. Having one of the hottest drivers in the sport right now behind the wheel of the Old Spice Chevrolet can only help our chances of winning.”

Biggest challenge from two road-course races in a row to Michigan International Speedway: “This team has put a lot of hard work into the last three weeks getting through the two road-course races and now the Michigan race this upcoming weekend. Having two drivers in Ron Fellows and Tony Stewart can only help a team like ours. KHI has put a lot of work into its two-mile race programs and we hope to show that this weekend in Michigan.”
