Event/Date: CARFAX 250 – August 18, 2007
Venue: Michigan International Speedway – Brooklyn, Mich.

NOTES:

  • This Week’s Race Car at Michigan International Speedway … Jeff Burton will pilot Chassis No. 061 from the Richard Childress Racing (RCR) stable. This is the same Holiday Inn Chevrolet Burton drove to Victory Lane earlier this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Burton also raced this No. 29 Chevy to a third-place finish five weeks ago at Chicagoland Speedway, a 19th-place finish at Dover International Speedway in June, a fourth-place finish at Darlington Raceway in May and a 10th-place finish at Texas Motor Speedway in April.
  • Gaining Ground … Burton’s second-place finish at Watkins Glen International last week advanced the Holiday Inn Racing team 99 points in the NASCAR Busch Series owners’ championship point standings. The team is now just 41 markers behind Jack Roush’s No. 60 machine.
  • Stat Facts … In 10 NASCAR Busch Series (NBS) starts at Michigan International Speedway (MIS), Burton has earned one victory, four top-five and seven top-10 finishes. The South Boston, Va., native has a 10.7 starting average and an 11.8 finishing average. He has led 99 laps and collected over $160,000 in prize money.
  • RCR Busch Cars at Michigan … RCR has one Busch Series win at MIS. Kevin Harvick won the 2003 Cabela’s 250. In 15 NBS starts at the two-mile oval, RCR has secured three top-five and seven top-10 finishes. RCR Busch cars have also led 94 laps in Michigan’s Irish Hills.
  • Pretty Strong for a Part-Timer … Despite competing in just 12 of the 24 NBS events to date in 2007, Burton sits 19th in the drivers’ point standings. All but one of the races has resulted in top-10s, including two wins (Las Vegas and Atlanta) and eight top-five finishes.
  • Double Duty … In addition to racing the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet in Saturday’s NBS race, Burton will drive RCR’s No. 31 AT&T Chevrolet in the 3M Performance 400 NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday, August 19. The 19-time Cup Series winner has posted four top-five and eight top-10 finishes in 27 starts at the track.
  • RCR Busch Brigade … In 24 Busch Series races this season, RCR has claimed nine victories with the most recent coming last week at Watkins Glen with Harvick. Burton has won twice this season matched by Clint Bowyer’s two wins. Harvick leads the way with five wins. Additionally, the three RCR Busch teams (No. 2, No. 21 and No. 29) have a total of 29 top-five and 41 top-10 finishes while leading 1,106 laps.
  • Leading the Way in Owner Wins … RCR leads the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series in owner wins with nine.
  • Catch the Action … The CARFAX 250 will be televised live on ESPN2 Saturday, August 18 beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and Sirius Satellite Radio. Qualifying for the 25th race on the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series schedule will be televised live on SPEED the same day beginning at 11 a.m. EDT.

    JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
You have a win at Michigan in the Busch Series. What does it take to come out on top at that track?
“Our Holiday Inn Chevy has driven really well at Michigan in the past. If you look at the field in the Busch Series there are a lot of tough competitors and really good teams. You always want to get around the corner a little better than someone else and that is the amount of grip you can generate. You can never really know what you need to do because things change. We build a hypothesis based on all the information we have and, hopefully, we build the right one.”

What are the keys to qualifying well at Michigan?
“The interesting thing about the Busch Series is that you have to qualify what you race. You certainly have to make some sacrifices in your qualifying setup to be good for the race. Hitting your lines just right is the key to qualifying.”
