JUAN PABLO MONTOYA, No. 42 TEXACO/HAVOLINE DODGE: “It was really bad to start with but I got the lucky dog. The last few runs I’d been running clean air and got into really dirty air. I had been running on the top all day and for some reason I just went in the gas and I thought it was fine out of the corner, just clipped the wall. We fixed it, it was okay, went out and I don’t know. It just got really loose on power out of two. I went in, went to the top, and went on the gas wide open and all of a sudden, poom, hit the wall. Came back and the left front was flat. That is a little weird because I hit on the right-side only.”

MARCOS AMBROSE IN THE No. 59 KINGSFORD FORD WAS THE TOP RAYBESTOS ROOKIE IN TONIGHT’S RACE.

Notes:

  • Ambrose finished 20th and took Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the third time this season.
  • UNOFFICIALLY David Ragan leads Juan Pablo Montoya by five points (132-127) in the Raybestos Rookie standings.

AMBROSE: “This is good for us. You know, we weren’t a lap down and we had a lug nut there in a green flag stop. I’m really pleased. We’ve made a lot of progress and feel really racy out there. We got ourselves in a hole after I got way out. The most important thing is to stop crashing. We’ve had a lot of crashed cars in our team over the five different races across the three series. Not that it’s self induced on our part but we’ve just got to play our part here and finish some races with a straight car and develop ‘em and that’s what we did tonight. We had our first development body of the year and huge gains. I’m really happy.” YOU FINISHED TONIGHT WHEN SEVERAL MORE EXPERIENCED DRIVERS DID NOT. “I tried hard not to a few times but somehow I kept it off the fence and brought ‘er home. I’m really happy, just working great with the guys. We’re making progress.”

DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD: IT SEEMED LIKE YOUR CAR WAS GOOD IN QUALIFING THIS AFTERNOON BUT WAS A HANDFUL AT NIGHT. “No, it was even good at the start of the race. We run there comfortable in the top-10. We had a bad pit stop there that first stop. We were still about 10th or 12th and we cut a tire that long green flag run and just got really, really tight and lost a lot of track position. Then the next stop we over-adjusted and got it too loose and then for the rest I was just hanging on. We still had a good chance of coming back and getting the lucky dog and being alright but combination of me over-driving it and the car just being too loose just got into the wall there. It didn’t really hurt the suspension, just a little bit of the aero package.”

KYLE KRISILOFF, No. 14 CLABBER GIRL FORD: “Our car was really bad all night. It was really tight and that restart I lost fourth gear for like three-quarters of a lap and then I got it back in. I had to hold it in and once I got it in I was in clean air and man, I was running pretty fast. It was good enough to be in the top-15. We learned a lot about we’re missing a lot on our bodies. It was a good day as far as that. I was running really good and got up behind a car and got aero tight and got in the wall and cut down a tire and then hit the wall really hard. We learned where we need to improve and just hate it for these guys. I didn’t want to tear up a car tonight running where we were running. We learned something about our program so we’ll tear the whole thing off and try to build a better one.”

BRAD KESELOWSKI, No. 23 MACTAC CHEVROLET: “We just struggled right off the bat there and started making changes and found some stuff. I think we were probably a top-20 car based on where we were running and lap times they were reading me. We just broke a brake line again and had no brakes so we had to come in and change that. We lost 10 or 11 laps trying to fix it and dug a hole we couldn’t get back out of the rest of the night.” YOU MADE THE RACE ON SPEED DESPITE SPINNING ON YOUR SECOND QUALIFYING LAP. “Anytime you come to Charlotte you’ve got to be prepared to have a tough time making the show when you’re not locked in. Just to be able to make the show is pretty cool. Knocked out Bill Elliott to get in here so that’s pretty cool and knocked out a lot of good cars. I guess that’s something to be proud of. I just wish we could not have the failures that we’ve been having because we could show some strength.”
