Carquest Auto Parts 300 - Rookie Practice Quotes
Raybestos Rookie Happy Hour speeds:
Ragan, 2nd
Ambrose 23rd
Krisiloff 30th
Montoya 35th
Keselowski 41st
DAVID RAGAN, No. 6 DISCOUNT TIRE FORD: YOU RAN WELL IN THE FINAL PRACTICE SESSION. “Yeah it is. This is our same car that we ran with at Texas earlier in the year. You know, we didn’t get a chance to test it. It sat at the shop during testing last week so we really didn’t know what to expect. But I think it drives pretty good. I don’t think anybody on the new asphalt with super-hard tires drives perfect. It’s a little loose here, a little tight here but it’s got some good speed. Certainly it’s something we can work with for Saturday night.” YOU WERE SECOND IN THE FINAL PRACTICE. ARE YOU THE SECOND-BEST CAR HERE? “We might be the second best car here, but I think Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth, when it comes time to get it done, they know what to do. Another couple of months and I’ll be right there with ‘em [smiles]. But all kidding aside, we’re pretty good. I think the 9 car, all of our Roush Fenway teammates are really fast. As long as we’re close to them, we can race ‘em from there.” DID YOU NOTICE THE TRACK CHANGING A LOT IN THIS FINAL PRACTICE? “Oh yeah, it gets a little more grip as the minutes and the hours click off and we know that and we try to adjust to it as best we can. I think that’s the biggest thing. Everybody is going to get a little faster but it depends on who gets that much faster. I feel like we picked up a lot from the first practice to this practice. We’ve just got to keep working on it. The Raybestos Rookie of the Year is something that we certainly don’t have to win, but we want to. We do have to be consistent and run fast. That’s what we’re looking for: be consistent and run fast.” THESE ARE CONDITIONS THAT YOU WILL HAVE IN THE 600. THAT MUST BE ENCOURAGING. “Oh yeah and each car is setup a little different. Each car drives a little different. Time will tell. Every weekend you learn so much and you’re so better one week or you learn something. Nothing is predictable in this sport. I think Matt Kenseth can do some things that’s predictable, but we’re still just swinging hard into the open air, hoping we hit something.”
