Carquest Auto Parts 300 - Jon Wood Notes

Wood Likes Racing At Lowe's

FAST AND FURIOUS – JUST THE WAY JON WOOD LIKES IT AT CHARLOTTE
The Lowe’s Motor Speedway offers everything Jon Wood likes in a racetrack. It’s fast and the racing is furious.

Wood is well-prepared for Saturday night’s Carquest 300. His No. 47 Armor All Ford Fusion is fast and he has the temperament to handle three-wide, bumper-to-bumper racing at 180 mph.

Charlotte presents one of the greatest challenges in the NASCAR Busch Series season. The track changes throughout the event. The race groove moves from the bottom to the top, so it’s important for a team to be able to change as well. Wood tested two weeks ago at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway, and they left with a good idea of what to expect during the main event.

The key to running up front, Wood said, is having a car that rockets off the fourth and second turns. Teams that can stay ahead of their adjustments will be able to accelerate off the corners, while others will be chasing the racetrack.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY
Jon Wood, driver of the No. 47 Armor All Ford Fusion:
“There’s no secret I like to go fast. I also don’t mind mixing it up a little bit. You have to be able to do a little bit of both at Charlotte.

“We learned a lot in our test there a couple weeks ago, and I’m sure we’ll be competitive when we get back for the race. Having fast cars and a good race strategy hasn’t been our problem this year. It’s been racing luck. We got through Darlington, one of the toughest tracks in our sport, without any problems, so maybe we’ve turned the corner on our run of bad luck.

“A good run at Charlotte not only will give our Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team a lot of momentum, it will set up our summer run. We can use this race as a springboard to get the summer off to a good start.”

Scott Zipadelli, Crew Chief of the No. 47 Armor All Ford Fusion:
“Charlotte gives a race team a lot of headaches because it’s always changing. One minute the track is tight, the next it’s loose. You have to stay ahead of your adjustments. It’s real important to qualify well there and we spent a lot of time in our test on our qualifying package.”
